Steven Peoples, Brandon Facyson are our Hokies of the Game Against Old Dominion

Steven Peoples 1
Virginia Tech dominated weaker competition for the third-straight week with a 38-0 shutout victory over Old Dominion today. The Hokies' defense had one of their best games of the year while the offense was productive throughout the game. There are plenty of worthy candidates, but two players emerged from the rest to be this week's Hokies of the Game.

Offensive Hokie of the Game: Steven Peoples

Steven Peoples had the game of his career with 13 carries for 62 yards and a TD, and 3 catches for 73 yards and 2 TDs. Peoples was consistent on the ground being able to grind out four or five yards while earning an extra yard or two just about every time he touched the ball. Steven Peoples also was effective in the passing being in a perfect position to catch his 43-yard TD of a tipped pass. Peoples scored his other TD off of a perfectly executed screen where he used his blockers perfectly to score a touchdown. Steven Peoples had the game of his life as he was consistently effective as the Hokies' power back. Peoples doesn't have the big play speed that Deshawn McClease and Travon McMillian have, but he's a strong, physical runner that has taken the power back role of Sam Rogers and done well in it. Cam Phillips had another great game with 7 catches for 106 yards as he will continue to be near the top nationally in every major receiving stat. Josh Jackson was productive going 20-for-30 for 298 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception while running for 29 yards on 10 carries.

Defensive Hokie of the Game: Brandon Facyson

You could argue the whole defense should receive this honor after their second shutout of the season, but Brandon Facyson stood out just a little more to earn this honor. Facyson was dominant in coverage as ODU had almost no success throwing the ball in Facyson's direction the few times they did. Facyson finished the day with 4 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 pass breakup but the stats don't tell the full story on how good Facyson was today. It's unknown if Adonis Alexander will be back against Clemson, but Brandon Facyson looked like the cornerback most expected him to develop into. Whether Alexander plays against Clemson or not, Bud Foster should be able to have a lot of confidence in at least having Facyson and Greg Stroman on the outside. Divine Deablo had his first career interception while Tremaine Edmunds led the Hokies with 6 tackles along with 0.5 tackles for loss. Greg Stroman also was solid in coverage with 1 tackle and 2 pass breakups while Ricky Walker was a force up the middle with 5 tackles. Congrats to Steven Peoples and Brandon Facyson on being our Hokies of the Game.
