CJ Carroll, Steven Peoples Out Against Boston College

Steven Peoples 1
Virginia Tech is looking to get their first ACC win tonight on the road against a Boston College team desperate for a big win. The Hokies' offense will be looking to have a better offensive week against a Boston College defense that struggles to stop the run, even with star DE Harold Landry, but has been very good at defending the pass. Tonight, the Hokies will be without a pair of their best offensive weapons. https://twitter.com/VT_Football/status/916774660397821952 Virginia Tech has announced that starting WR CJ Carroll and RB Steven Peoples are out against Boston College. This will be the second-straight game that Peoples has missed due to an ankle injury while Carroll picked up a foot injury this week and was seen on crutches a few days ago. CJ Carroll is a tough loss that hurts the Hokies' WR depth in a matchup where BC will try to regularly double team Cam Phillips. Carroll hasn't been too bad this season with 10 catches for 124 yards and a touchdown in five games including 3 catches for 45 yards against Clemson last week. With Carroll out, expect Sean Savoy to start in the slot and play more offensive snaps tonight. You can also expect to see the Hokies use Chris Cunningham as a second slot receiver some as well while Cam Phillips will likely slide inside a little more than he normally does. Steven Peoples has been the Hokies' power back, and Virginia Tech really doesn't have another power back that they can replace Peoples with. Peoples has only averaged 3.7 yards per carry, but he's found ways to gain yards that many running backs wouldn't and his physical style has given opponents' issues. Look for Jalen Holston to have an expanded role if he's not sick while Travon McMillian should gain some of those "power back" carries as long as he's not still in Justin Fuente's dog house. Deshawn McClease may also gain a couple carries as a featured back, especially if McMillian still is in the dog house. We wish for a speedy and full recovery for CJ Carroll and Steven Peoples.
