Virginia Tech Drops to 17th in Polls After Loss to Miami

Helmet 1
Virginia Tech suffered a disappointing loss to Miami 28-10 that eliminated the Hokies from ACC Coastal title contention. Miami proved that they were better than everybody thought. Meanwhile, the Hokies dropped a few spots after their loss to the Hurricanes. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/927250802422501377 https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/927239670609694720 Virginia Tech dropped from 13th to 17th in the AP and Coaches Polls. The four spot drop is equivalent to how much the Hokies dropped in the polls after their loss to Clemson. Virginia Tech is now 1-2 against top 25 competition, and isn't expected to face another top 25 team till a bowl game. This ranking seems fitting for the Hokies and will likely be where they end up in the College Football Playoff rankings Tuesday night. Virginia Tech still has a chance to climb back towards the top 12 in the nation as long as they win out. If they do, they might be able to sneak into one of the New Year's Six bowls as an at-large team. Virginia Tech doesn't have a tough schedule that could help them climb the polls, but they do have a very winnable closing stretch against a trio of average Coastal teams. The toughest test may come this weekend against Georgia Tech's triple option that can be difficult to prepare for without having more than a week. Clemson continues to lead the way for the ACC ranked fourth in both polls. The Tigers rose two spots in the AP Poll and one spot in the Coaches Poll after their win over NC State. Miami stayed at sixth in the Coaches Poll and jumped from ninth to seventh in the AP Poll after their win over VT. NC State dropped out of the AP Poll at 27th while dropping from 19th to 24th in the Coaches Poll.
