The Virginia Tech Hokies fell to 17th in the latest College Football Playoff rankings Tuesday night after a disappointing loss to Miami in week 10. The Hokies dropped to the same spot in the latest AP Top 25 Poll released on Sunday. https://twitter.com/CFBPlayoff/status/928050912312086528 The Hokies entered last week’s contest ranked 13th by the CFP committee, but a 28-10 loss all but guaranteed a drop in the rankings. The committee moved Miami up three spots from 10th to 7th. With the loss, Virginia Tech is now 0-2 against teams currently in the CFP top 25, also losing to Clemson on Sept. 30. Last week’s game between Virginia Tech and Miami was the biggest game between the two programs since 2010, with the winner likely to end up the ACC Coastal division champion. The Hokies were outplayed from the start and were unable to get any momentum going against the rival Canes. Around the ACC, two other schools are currently in the committee’s top 25. Clemson stayed put at 4th while NC State dropped from 20th to 23rd. The Tigers narrowly beat the Wolfpack in what was likely a deciding game for the ACC Atlantic division. NC State led 21-17 at halftime, but Clemson outscored the Pack 21-10 in the second half to take home the win. The Hokies are officially out of contention for the ACC Championship Game. Virginia Tech is not likely to face another top 25 team this season with matchups against Georgia Tech, Pitt and Virginia remaining on the schedule. Despite not appearing in the conference championship, Tech still has a chance to finish the regular season 10-2, improving upon last regular season’s record.
