Kalil Pimpleton Has Left The Virginia Tech Football Team

Kalil Pimpleton 1
Last spring, Kalil Pimpleton showed plenty of promise after enrolling in January. With multiple slot receivers out, Pimpleton was the Hokies' top healthy slot receiver and received plenty of reps. In the spring, Pimpleton showed some promise with all signs pointing towards him playing some this fall. However, that promise won't be fulfilled in Blacksburg. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/929822079008104453 According to Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times, Kalil Pimpleton has left the Virginia Tech football team and will transfer after this semester. Pimpleton played a few snaps this season and had a four-yard carry against North Carolina. This news is definitely surprising, especially given how Pimpleton has been in Blacksburg for less than a season. Pimpleton has fallen behind guys like Sean Savoy in the slot this fall, and has barely touched the field because of that. Virginia Tech also has some athletes like DeJuan Ellis and James Graham who profile as slot guys which would have also made it a tougher challenge for Pimpleton to earn playing time in Blacksburg. Don't be surprised to see Pimpleton head to a school closer to home. While it's unlikely that Pimpleton will end up at a power 5 school, the MAC could be a possible landing spot for him. Losing Pimpleton does take some wide receiver depth away, but the Hokies have guys like Ellis and Graham coming in to refill that depth. Pimpleton's departure also opens up a scholarship that is very valuable given the extremely tight numbers for the Hokies. While that likely won't be used on a WR, it does give the Hokies some more scholarship flexibility. We wish Kalil Pimpleton the best in his future endeavors.
