Terrell Edmunds Out For the Season With Shoulder Injury

Terrell Mook 2
Terrell Edmunds has been a significant part of Virginia Tech's secondary the past two seasons. Edmunds has been on the field for practically every defensive snap, and has been a vocal leader this season. However, the Hokies gained some disappointing news on Edmunds. https://twitter.com/VT_Football/status/930529670726062080 Virginia Tech announced that Terrell Edmunds will have season-ending surgery on his left shoulder. Justin Fuente said that Edmunds has been dealing with this injury for "much of the season." Fuente added that he feels this is the best time for Edmunds to begin his recovery. The timing of this move makes a lot of sense for Virginia Tech since the Hokies are out of ACC title contention. It is unknown when Edmunds will be able to return. However, this should help him return sooner to gain more practice reps whether that is in the spring or in fall camp. Edmunds had 59 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 4 pass breakups in 10 games this season. Edmunds started every game for Virginia Tech and played on defense and special teams. Going forward, Bud Foster is likely to use either Khalil Ladler or Devon Hunter at free safety. Ladler is more likely given his current position as the backup free safety though Hunter has more upside and Foster may want to get his true freshman DB some reps. Foster could also use Mook Reynolds at free safety with Anthony Shegog or Deon Newsome taking over for Reynolds at whip LB. While this injury is unfortunate, it does give Virginia Tech an opportunity to give guys like Ladler and Hunter some valuable reps. There is nothing better for development than game reps, and Ladler and Hunter will have the opportunity to pick up those valuable game reps. We wish for a full and speedy recovery for Terrell Edmunds from his injury.
