Cam Phillips, Reggie Floyd Are Our Hokies of the Game Against Pittsburgh

Virginia Tech ended their two-game losing streak with a dramatic 20-14 win over Pittsburgh thanks to a goal-line stand to end the game. There were plenty of great performances and big plays yesterday from guys like Reggie Floyd, Greg Stroman, Cam Phillips, Deshawn McClease, and Andrew Motuapuaka. However, two players stood out above the rest to be this week's Hokies of the Game.

Offensive Hokie of the Game: Cam Phillips

Cam Phillips had one of his best games of the season and once again made some great catches on his way to helping the Hokies beat Pitt. Phillips had 8 catches for 117 yards and a touchdown, and broke the school record for receiving yards in this game. This was the fifth time this season that Phillips has had over 100 receiving yards, and was the most yards he's had in a game since the East Carolina game. The combination of more attention and suffering a foot sprain against Boston College has slowed him down, but Phillips has still found ways to make a difference and make some great catches including his game-winning touchdown catch in heavy coverage. Phillips has been one of the ACC's best receivers this year, and his development over his four-year career has been very impressive, especially in the past two years with Justin Fuente and Holmon Wiggins. Deshawn McClease and Jalen Holston both played well as McClease had 70 yards on 14 carries while Holston had 52 yards on 12 carries. While the Hokies' passing game is struggling, Virginia Tech's running game seems to be finding some rhythm no with the speed and power combo of McClease and Holston looking like the way forward in the backfield. One other guy that deserves to be mentioned is left guard Wyatt Teller. While the Hokies' offensive line has struggled some this season, Teller has not and has been one of the best offensive lineman in the ACC. Defensive Hokie of the Game: Reggie Floyd

This was a tough choice, but Reggie Floyd earned the nod after one of the best hustle plays of the years chasing down Jester Weah to tackle him at the 1, setting up the Hokies' goal-line stand and saving the game. However, that wasn't the only play in what was another impressive game from the sophomore safety. Floyd led the Hokies with 8 tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss while also having an interception in the first half on what was great coverage from Floyd where he looked like a center fielder tracking the ball down. Floyd has steadily gotten better throughout this season and is one of the most underrated safeties in the ACC. Reggie Floyd's future is very bright while his strong season this year gives him a shot to earn at least some All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. Greg Stroman was also extremely good on his Senior Day as the senior cornerback had 7 tackles, 2 pass breakups, and a big interception in the second half that set the Hokies up in Pitt territory for their game-winning touchdown. Stroman has been playing at an extremely high level this season and should receive All-American consideration. Andrew Motuapuaka played well on his Senior Day with 7 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 1 sack. Tremaine Edmunds also had a very good game with 7 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 2 QB hurries. Congrats to Cam Phillips and Reggie Floyd on being our Hokies of the Game.
