Virginia Tech Jumps Back Into The Top 25 After Win Over Pittsburgh

Virginia Tech ended their two-game losing streak yesterday with a 20-14 victory over Pittsburgh thanks to a goal-line stand at the end of the game. Today, the Hokies were rewarded with a return to the top 25 after a one-week absence.

Virginia Tech returned to the top 25 in both polls, jumping to 24th in the AP Poll and 25th in the Coaches Poll. The Hokies are the third-highest ranked ACC team in the polls, potentially opening a door for the Hokies to get to the Orange Bowl if Clemson and Miami both make the playoffs.

While many fans may be disappointed that Virginia Tech barely survived against a 4-7 Pitt team, the Hokies are definitely worthy of a top 25 spot led by an elite defense and a strong special teams unit.

The Hokies will face a challenge on the road at a Virginia that was up 28-14 against Miami before the Hurricanes scored 30 unanswered points to win 44-28. A win would almost certainly guarantee that Virginia Tech will finish the regular season as the third-highest ranked team in the ACC along with leading to a significant boost thanks to a schedule full of top 25 and rivalry matchups.

Miami stayed at second in both the AP and Coaches Polls while Clemson remained third in the Coaches Poll and fourth in the AP Poll. NC State dropped out of both polls with the Wolfpack receiving the fourth most votes among those outside the AP top 25 and fifth most among those outside the Coaches Poll. Wake Forest is also right outside the top 25, receiving the sixth most votes among those outside the AP top 25 and seventh most among those outside the Coaches Poll.
