After a 10-0 shutout win over their bitter rival Virginia, the Virginia Tech Hokies moved up in both the Amway Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Top 25. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/934860379393609728 https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/934853361651904513 The Hokies moved up four spots from 25 to 21 in the latest Coaches Poll, which came out Sunday. Tech moved up three spots from 25 to 22 when the AP Poll came out later Sunday afternoon. Multiple losses from teams in front of the Hokies paved the way for Tech to move up in both polls at the end of the regular season. In the AP Poll, Boise State’s loss dropped them from the rankings. Mississippi State’s loss to Ole Miss moved them to 24 in this week’s poll, while South Florida’s loss to in-state rival Central Florida dropped the Bulls to 23. The Hokies were able to move past all three teams on the way to their latest ranking. Boise State fell from the Coaches Poll as well, while Washington State, South Florida, and Mississippi State fell to spots 22 through 24, respectively. A slew of teams, including the Hokies, Northwestern, Michigan State, and Oklahoma State were all able to move up in the rankings due to the losses of higher-ranked teams. Around the ACC, Clemson rose to the top spot in both polls while Miami fell to 7 in both polls following their upset loss to Pitt. Virginia Tech is the next-highest ranked team from the conference in both polls. NC State received 56 votes in the AP Poll and 65 from the Coaches Poll. Virginia received four votes in the AP Poll while Louisville received 16 votes in the AP Poll and one in the Coaches Poll. With Selection Sunday coming up next weekend, the Hokies will at least make a Tier 1 ACC bowl and are in serious consideration for the Camping World Bowl in Orlando.
