Travon McMillian Will Transfer From Virginia Tech

Travon Mc Millian 3
As a redshirt freshman, Travon McMillian broke onto the scene in a big way with the first 1,000 yard season for a Virginia Tech RB since David Wilson. McMillian did this despite not becoming the Hokies' top running back till the sixth game of the season, finishing that season with seven-straight games of at least 80 rushing yards including three games with 100+ rushing yards. Two years ago, you would have thought that if McMillian would be leaving Virginia Tech after the 2017 season, it would be for the NFL Draft. Instead, it's for a fresh start elsewhere. https://twitter.com/tmcmillian2/status/939196021074219008 Travon McMillian announced today that he will be transferring from Virginia Tech. McMillian had a career low 439 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns this past season as he was relegated to backup running back duties by the end of this season. McMillian will be a grad transfer and eligible to play immediately in 2018. Travon McMillian is one of 14 players who have ran for at least 1,000 yards in a season in school history. McMillian is also 16th on the Hokies' career rushing list with 2,153 yards right behind Tyrod Taylor. Since Justin Fuente has arrived though, it's become clear that Travon McMillian doesn't fit well in the Hokies' offense with his numbers and role decreasing each of the past two seasons. McMillian's average of 4.2 yards per carry was down from 4.6 yards per carry last season and 5.2 yards per carry in 2015. With Deshawn McClease, Steven Peoples, and Jalen Holston moving up on the depth chart, McMillian's role has shrunk with the junior tailback receiving only 3 carries in the final 2 games. A fresh start seems like a wise move for McMillian with plenty of schools likely to be interested in a running back two years removed from a 1,000 yard season. We wish Travon McMillian the best in his future endeavors.
