Virginia Tech Makes The Final Four for Three-Star Big Man Florent Thamba

VT Students Miami 1
Virginia Tech has three players signed for their Class of 2018 headlined by four-star wing Landers Nolley. However, the Hokies are looking to add a big man to that class with three-star recruit Florent Thamba emerging as the top target. Recently, Thamba cut his list down to his final group of schools with VT making the cut. https://twitter.com/mmshoops1921/status/939688609384419328 Virginia Tech is one of four schools to be finalists for Thamba along with Illinois, Nebraska, and Baylor. Thamba has built up an impressive offer list recently that includes the following schools:
  • ACC: Virginia Tech
  • Big 10: Illinois, Nebraska, Penn State
  • Big 12: Baylor, Oklahoma State, TCU
  • Atlantic 10: VCU
  • Big East: Xavier
  • AAC: Memphis, Tulsa, USF, East Carolina
  • CAA: Towson
Florent Thamba has become a priority for the Hokies as a late-blooming prospect who has a legit offer list, and doesn't have the feel of a last-minute pursuit to fill out a class. Thamba also is well-regarded with ESPN rating him as a four-star recruit and 247 Sports rating as a three-star recruit and ranking him 33rd among centers. Thamba has already taken official visits to Virginia Tech and Nebraska with an official visit to Illinois coming soon. Thamba's VT official fortunately included the Hokies' blowout victory over Iowa, allowing him to see the Hokies' crowd in fine form and VT dominate a quality opponent at home. Thamba's recruitment is very hard to predict, especially with how recently it has blown up. However, the Hokies do have a significant advantage given that Thamba attends Mountain Mission School in Grundy, VA; giving VT a significant proximity advantage. With no more than one scholarship left, it appears to be Thamba or bust for VT. Despite Florent Thamba cutting his list down to 4, there is no clear favorite at this point. However, the Hokies have given themselves a great chance to add some size to their 2018 class.
