Post-Commitment Q&A With Virginia Tech Commit Jeremy Webb

Bud Foster 1
Right before Early Signing Day, Virginia Tech picked up a trio of commitments including one from four-star JUCO CB Jeremy Webb. Despite Virginia Tech having a large group of DBs committed, the Hokies pursued Webb throughout the fall and held off plenty of late offers to gain his commitment. Webb is expected to come in and compete for a starting CB job across from Adonis Alexander against Bryce Watts who played significantly on special teams this past season. Webb told us that he is hoping to enroll early, but that he isn't sure yet. Jeremy Webb is rated as a four-star recruit across the board with ESPN ranking him as the 19th best JUCO recruit in the country and 247 Sports ranking him tenth among JUCO recruits. Both ESPN and 247 Sports also have him as the second best JUCO CB in the country. Recently, we caught up with Jeremy Webb to ask him about his decision to commit to Virginia Tech. Here's what he had to say. Q: What led you to choosing Virginia Tech over the other schools that offered you? Jeremy Webb: "The amount of love they showed me, I couldn't help but choose VT. In terms of football, it just was the perfect fit. With the team they have coming back, we can really do something special." Q: How impactful was your relationship with Brian Mitchell on your decision and why? JW: "Huge, besides the actual fit on defense, I would say that's the most important thing. Building a relationship with the person you're going to be with the most besides your strength coach is huge. I need to be able to understand how they are not only as a coach but as a person, and being able to be comfortable around him." Q: How much did the stability at VT compared to other offers of yours help VT? JW: "I would say VT probably was the most stable out of most of them. It definitely played a huge factor, especially after all the crazy coaching changes that happened this year. It's just nice to know as a recruit that your coaches that you deal with on nearly a daily base aren't going anywhere and are going to be with the program for a while." Q: How much of an impact did the potential to start as soon as next season have on your decision to choose VT? JW: "It wasn't as much as some would think. Of course starting is ideal, but I feel like I can go in anywhere in the country and work and earn the starting job. I thrive off of competition." Q: How important was it that VT has a reputation for producing NFL DBs? JW: "I love it. To be apart of something like this with so much history is huge. I feel like this pipeline helps a lot, especially with only having 2 years to play and the NFL being a goal of mine." Q: How big of a factor was getting to play as part of a Bud Foster defense? JW: "Playing for a guy like Coach Foster is nothing but an honor. He's a living legend. His defense finishes among the top defenses in the country just about every year." Q: How do you feel you will fit in this defense? JW: "Perfectly, couldn't ask for a better fit. Our defense, especially the secondary, could be scary next season." Q: How excited are you to work with a guy like Adonis Alexander? JW: "I'm ready to get after it with all of them to be honest. I'm looking forward even more to being coached by Coach Foster and Coach Mitchell." We would like to thank Jeremy Webb for being a part of this post-commitment Q&A.
