Virginia Tech Among Those Standing Out For 2019 Four-Star OL Bryan Hudson

Virginia Tech put together a strong offensive line class in the 2018 cycle, but the Hokies are hoping to put together another large, very good offensive line class in 2019. One of their top targets is four-star offensive lineman Bryan Hudson from Kentucky. Hudson has an impressive offer list that includes plenty of elite programs, but the Hokies have positioned themselves well among this elite group of schools. Bryan Hudson told us that the Hokies are among five schools standing out in his recruitment along with Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Louisville. Hudson also told us that the Hokies are recruiting him the hardest and that his only currently scheduled visit is to Blacksburg on January 14th. When we asked Hudson why the Hokies were standing out, this is what he had to say. "I have built a good relationship with the coaches and stay in contact with them quite often," Hudson said. "The gameday atmosphere was very impressive, and I really like how the program is very blue-collar and built around sweat. They also have been very genuine and willing to let me do track as well." Hudson is planning to be a two-sport athlete at the collegiate level as he is a talented thrower who has personal bests of 60'1'' in shot put and 191'3'' in discus (both of which are extremely impressive especially for a sophomore). Hudson told us that most schools have said he could compete in both sports at the collegiate level (track coaches at those schools will be happy about this), but said it wasn't a decisive factor. "It's not a deciding factor, but it is important to me. I love track and would love to do it. Football is obviously the priority and will be through college. Also, I wouldn't want to do it in college if I didn't believe that I could compete for a national championship," Hudson said. Earlier this fall, Hudson visited multiple schools across the country including Virginia Tech for the Hokies' game against Delaware. Hudson came away impressed with that experience and the environment inside Lane Stadium. "It was great! The atmosphere was crazy and the game was awesome," said Hudson on his VT visit. "I toured some on campus, and the track and football facilities as well. They were amazing." Bryan Hudson told us that VT OL coach Vance Vice is among the coaches he has the best relationships with along with Louisville OL coach Mike Summers and Kentucky OL coach John Schlarman. When we asked Hudson about his relationship with Vance Vice, this is what he had to say. "He is very genuine and his attitude towards football and the team is what I like. He also reminds me of a football coach I had in youth ball that I still have a great relationship with," Hudson said. Hudson intends to make a decision before the start of his senior football season, and the Hokies are right in the hunt. VT also has a chance to make a big move when he visits on January 14th for VT's big Junior Day event. Bryan Hudson is well-regarded as a top 230 recruit in the 2019 class with ESPN and Rivals ranking him 214th nationally, and 247 Sports ranking him 221st. Hudson has the versatility to play either tackle or guard in college as ESPN ranks him as the 11th best guard while Rivals has him as the 25th best OT, and 247 Sports ranks him as the 26th best OT. While these rankings are strong, Hudson's offer list is more impressive per 247 Sports.
  • ACC: Virginia Tech, Louisville, Duke, North Carolina, Syracuse, Pittsburgh
  • SEC: Alabama, LSU, Florida, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Tennessee
  • Big 10: Ohio State, Purdue, Rutgers
  • Conference USA: Western Kentucky
Hudson's offer list is impressive and shows how coaches and analysts agree that Hudson should be a priority target for most college football programs. Based on what Hudson told us, it's clear that the Hokies are making the Kentucky offensive lineman a priority in their 2019 class. While it's still early in his recruitment, Virginia Tech should be a serious contender while schools like Alabama and LSU can't be discounted. Louisville and Kentucky have a major in-state advantage with Hudson being in Kentucky's backyard and less than 90 minutes away from Louisville. Both schools have also built strong relationships with him. However, that should also make it more impressive that Vance Vice has built about as good of a relationship with Hudson as those schools. Bryan Hudson is a priority target for Virginia Tech, and the Hokies are right in the hunt with a great opportunity to improve their standing for him next month.
