Virginia Tech saw the injury list fill up over the final month of the season with the Hokies losing starters like Terrell Edmunds and Vinny Mihota for the season. Recently, VT announced that Cam Phillips would not play in the Camping World Bowl due to a sports hernia injury he suffered in August. Today, we received updates on the statuses of Joey Slye and Yosuah Nijman for the Camping World Bowl. https://twitter.com/normwood/status/945759217578921984 https://twitter.com/RTD_MikeBarber/status/945769007256408066 Joey Slye expects to play in the Camping World Bowl while Justin Fuente said that Yosuah Nijman is not expected to play against Oklahoma State. Nijman hasn't played since the Hokies' loss to Miami while Slye missed the final two games of the regular season. Virginia Tech's offensive line has had some struggles since losing Nijman as Parker Osterloh struggled in Nijman's absence. Many have blamed Josh Jackson's late season confidence drop on the injury to Nijman and the decrease in play. However, the Hokies' offensive line improved towards the end of the season with D'Andre Plantin outplaying Osterloh against UVA according to Pro Football Focus. It's unknown who will start left tackle though Plantin should have a strong case after his performance against UVA. Joey Slye hasn't had his best season, but the senior kicker's play improved as the season went along before his injury. Brian Johnson went 3-4 on field goals with a long of 30 yards and 5-5 on extra points in Slye's absence. However, Slye is definitely an upgrade over Johnson with a bigger leg who can consistently get touchbacks on kickoffs.
