Five Standing Out For 2019 LB Jahmar Brown Including Virginia Tech

Bud Foster 1 1
Year after year, St Thomas Aquinas is consistently one of the top high school programs in Florida. The South Florida school is almost always loaded with power 5 talents, many of whom Virginia Tech have offered including three-star 2019 LB Jahmar Brown. Recently, we caught up with Brown about his recruitment, and a few schools are standing out for him. Jahmar Brown told us that Virginia Tech, Miami, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Michigan are currently standing out to him in his recruitment. Brown said that these schools stand out in part because all of their defenses "really impressed" him this season. When we asked why VT is specifically standing out, Brown told us that "whenever I watched them, they played pretty stout defense for the most part. Their front 7 was pretty dominant." When we asked Brown what type of linebacker he is, he told us he is "more of a finesse player, I use my speed and quickness to get me to the ball." Brown isn't the biggest linebacker yet at 6'1'' and 190 pounds according to his 247 Sports profile, but his speed and quickness has helped him become a well-regarded recruit with the frame and time to add on more weight without losing that speed. Looking ahead to this spring, Brown told us that he is planning to take visits to Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Michigan. Brown is also likely to take other visits before he cuts down his list of schools down to 7 by the end of July. Brown is fairly well-regarded as a four-star recruit by 247 Sports, and three-star recruit by ESPN and Rivals. 247 Sports currently ranks Brown as the 18th best outside linebacker, and 39th best recruit in the state of Florida. Jahmar Brown's offer list is quite good and includes the following schools.
  • ACC: Virginia Tech, Miami, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Syracuse
  • Big 10: Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State
  • Big 12: Oklahoma
  • SEC: Tennessee, Arkansas
  • Pac-12: Oregon
  • AAC: USF, Cincinnati
  • Conference USA: Florida Atlantic
Virginia Tech is a contender for Jahmar Brown with Bud Foster's defense making a strong impression on him. However, local Miami appears to be the early frontrunner as the school that is recruiting him the hardest. In addition to that, Miami DC Manny Diaz is the coach whom Brown says he has the best relationship with. The fortunate thing for the Hokies and others is that staying close to home "doesn’t really matter, as long as the school is a good fit for me" according to Brown. While Miami likely does benefit from being nearby, it won't be something that will be decisive in his recruitment, helping the Hokies and others. VT is also helped by the fact that Miami already has a pair of linebackers committed and likely won't add more than one or two more linebackers if both of those guys stick with the Canes. Virginia Tech is in the hunt for one of the most talented linebackers in Florida from one of the best high school programs in South Florida. However, the Hokies and other schools standing out for Jahmar Brown appear to have some ground to make up on nearby Miami.
