When you think of powerhouse areas for college football recruiting, the state of Rhode Island is not going to be a place you think of. However, one of America’s top offensive tackle recruits has emerged out of that area in four-star OT Xavier Truss.
Recently, we caught up with him to ask him about his recruitment.
Xavier Truss told us that Virginia Tech is “up there” in his recruitment and that he “definitely wants to visit” the Hokies. Truss mentioned that he has scheduled visits to Penn State, Michigan, and Alabama while hoping to also visit VT and Oklahoma. Truss also recently told us that Penn State has recruited him the hardest though the Hokies and many others are making significant pushes for him.
Adam Lechtenberg is the primary recruiter for Truss who told us that he has a “pretty solid” relationship with him and is “comfortable” talking with him. Lechtenberg has been one of VT’s primary recruiters in the Northeast and has made plenty of stops to visit Truss and others including four-star DB Lewis Cine and three-star CB/VT commit Mike Sainristil.
For now, Penn State appears to be the favorite for Truss with the 247 Sports’ Crystal Ball being in favor of the Nittany Lions. Oklahoma and Ohio State also appear to be serious contenders while Alabama is a school to watch after offering Truss earlier this week.
However, Xavier Truss clearly has a good amount of interest in the Hokies especially with his hopes to visit VT over some of the other offers on his list. For now, the Hokies are in the hunt, but they’ll need to get him on campus to continue to improve their standing in his recruitment.
What do recruiting analysts think of Xavier Truss?
Truss’s recruitment has blown up this spring with most of his offers coming in the past few months. Early recruiting rankings back up the offer list as 247 Sports ranks him as the 63rd best recruit and 10th best offensive tackle while Rivals rates him as a four-star recruit. If Truss maintains his four-star status, he will be the first four-star recruit from the Rhode Island this decade according to 247 Sports.
