The Class of 2020 may not be too close to their Signing Day, but Virginia Tech already has some top targets emerging in that cycle including four-star point guard Jalen Cone. Cone recently visited the Hokies for their game against Louisville and took an unofficial visit.
Cone told us that his visit to Virginia Tech was “great” for their game against Louisville. When we asked Cone what stood out about his visit, this is what he told us.
“The atmosphere definitely stood out!” Cone said. “I know the game was sold out and the fan support was crazy. The new, re-done facilities were super nice.”
Cone told us that the visit “made me think more of” Virginia Tech than he previously did, a good sign for the Hokies especially given how they are the early power 5 offer for Cone. While Cone does not have a leader at this point, the Hokies are the clear favorite at this point especially given his other offers. Cone also told us that Virginia Tech is recruiting him the hardest though he also mentioned that other ACC schools are starting to show more interest.
Some of that interest in the Walkertown, NC point guard has come from in-state ACC schools like North Carolina, NC State, and Wake Forest. Outside of North Carolina, Cone told us that he’s been receiving interest from Kentucky, Clemson, Wichita State, and Xavier among schools in power conferences.
While those schools could be quality challengers, Buzz Williams and the Hokies are getting a clear head start as the early offer on one of the most talented North Carolina players in the 2020 class.
For now, the Hokies are in great shape for four-star point guard Jalen Cone. However, the Hokies still have plenty of work ahead especially with more major conference offers being inevitable.
