Virginia Tech’s reputation as DBU has continued to stand out to plenty of top recruits across the country. The Hokies are in pursuit of a few top defensive backs including four-star DBs Nyquee Hawkins, Cam’Ron Kelly, and J.R. Walker while also holding a commitment from three-star CB Mike Sainristil.

Four-star DB Nyquee Hawkins from Orange, NJ announced that he has committed to Virginia Tech. Hawkins is the sixth 2019 commit, second defensive back commit, and first commit from the state of New Jersey. The New Jersey native is the Hokies’ second commit of the week after four-star OL Bryan Hudson committed on Tuesday.

Hawkins is well-regarded across the country as the 182nd best recruit by ESPN and 278th best by the 247 Sports Composite with Rivals also rating him as a four-star recruit and 247 Sports rating him as a three-star recruit. Hawkins is ranked as the 20th best safety by the 247 Sports Composite, 28th best safety by 247 Sports, 19th best CB by ESPN, and 31st best CB by Rivals.
The four-star DB is highly-ranked in New Jersey as 247 Sports and the 247 Sports Composite rank him as New Jersey’s sixth best recruit, Rivals ranks him eighth in the state of New Jersey, and ESPN ranks him fourth in the state of Virginia.
