Virginia Tech has made the state of North Carolina one of its top priorities since the arrival of Justin Fuente. The Hokies launched the #NC2VT movement last year and have had lots of success in the Tar Heel State landing a few top recruits including four-star LBs Dax Hollifield and Alan Tisdale, and four-star WR Tre Turner.
Once again, the Hokies are making North Carolina a priority with VT already gaining a commitment from three-star WR Elijah Bowick out of the Charlotte area. However, VT is hoping to sign more than just one player from North Carolina with four-star DB Khalid Martin being among their top priorities in North Carolina.
So far, the Hokies are in good shape in Martin’s recruitment.
Khalid Martin told us that Virginia Tech, NC State, and West Virginia are the schools currently at the top of his recruitment. Martin told us that the way Virginia Tech is recruiting him is a big reason why the Hokies are currently at the top of his recruitment.
Martin currently doesn’t have any visits scheduled yet for this summer though it wouldn’t be surprising to see him visit regional schools like the Hokies and Wolfpack.
The Kernersville, NC native is from the Greensboro/Winston-Salem area that produced multiple VT commits last recruiting cycle including Tre Turner, DJ Crossen, and Alan Tisdale. While it’s not known how close Martin is with those guys, having a reputation for signing guys from his home area should only help the Hokies.
Martin’s recruitment appears to be setting up to be a battle between Virginia Tech and NC State with West Virginia being the sleeper in his recruitment. Martin did recently visit NC State as well, but he did visit VT earlier this year and has said in the past that he has a strong relationship with the Hokies’ coaching staff.
Virginia Tech has made Khalid Martin a priority on the defensive side of the ball and are reaping the benefits in his recruitment. However, VT still has plenty of work ahead as Martin’s recruitment is setting up to be a regional battle between Virginia Tech, NC State, and West Virginia.
