Virginia Tech is the First to Offer 2020 DB Malcolm Greene

Cadet 5
Virginia Tech has had some success recruiting the Richmond area under Justin Fuente with Rayshard Ashby signing with the Hokies in the 2017 class and Jahad Carter being currently committed to the Hokies in the 2019 class. The Hokies are continuing to make the Richmond area a priority and recently extended 2020 safety Malcolm Greene an offer. https://twitter.com/airmgreene/status/991099076304408576 Greene told us that the offer was a "surprise" and that Zohn Burden offered him during a practice at Highland Springs HS. Greene told us that the Virginia Tech offer "means a lot" to him, and that the offer was a "stepping stone" in his recruitment. "I feel that VT definitely got the ball rolling for me," Malcolm Greene said on the impact of the Hokies extending him his first offer. In the aftermath of that offer, Greene has seen his offer list grown to include Rutgers and Norfolk State, another sign of the attention that Greene has gained from being offered by the Hokies. Greene also visited Virginia Tech for the Spring Game on April 14th which went "great." What stood out to Greene about the visit? "The involvement of the VT coaches with the recruits, and how big of a turn out there was" stood out to Greene about his Spring Game visit. Overall, Greene told us that this visit helped him build "stronger" relationships with the coaching staff, relationships that likely improved more after Zohn Burden came to Highland Springs to offer Greene. Currently, Malcolm Greene doesn't have a school standing out, but said that VT, Rutgers, and Norfolk State are recruiting him the hardest. Outside of his offers; Maryland, Marshall, and Duke are showing Greene the most interest with the Terps receiving a visit earlier this spring. The Blue Devils are among the schools that Greene is hoping to visit soon along with SEC East rivals South Carolina and Tennessee. Greene does have an interesting connection to Virginia Tech as his head coach is former VT DB Loren Johnson. While Johnson has a great relationship with Virginia Tech, the former VT DB wants to make sure that Greene makes the best decision possible even if that isn't the Hokies. "Since Coach (Loren) Johnson is an alumnus of VT, the relationship between him and the school is great because he had many great experiences there. Coach Johnson wants me to find the best place for me to further my career and education no matter what school that is," Greene said. The fact that Greene has heard about the "great experiences" that Loren Johnson had playing for the Hokies is something that definitely can't hurt the Hokies' chances with Greene. Looking ahead, the Hokies have gotten off to a solid start as the first school to offer Malcolm Greene. However, Virginia Tech still has plenty of work ahead in their pursuit of him especially with Greene's offer list being likely to grow in the coming months.
