Virginia Tech Surprises 2020 TE Ethan West With an Offer

Ethan West 2018 Junior Day
Entering the spring, 2020 three-star TE Ethan West only had offers from Virginia and Duke. However, the three-star athlete's recruitment started to take off in March and April with major offers coming in from schools like LSU and Nebraska. Now, Virginia Tech has decided to get involved in his recruitment. https://twitter.com/e_west2/status/992476210885259269 The Hokies extended an offer to West this week, his 11th offer overall in his recruitment. West is the latest major offer in the Richmond area after the Hokies offered 2020 Highland Springs DB Malcolm Greene earlier this week. In both cases, Zohn Burden stopped by their respective high schools to make the offer. West told us that the Hokies are recruiting him to play tight end though he has the versatility and size to play LB at the collegiate level at 6'4'' and 220 pounds according to 247 Sports. So how did West react to the offer and was he surprised by it? "I was excited since it’s the school kids dream about playing at in Virginia," West said. "It was a surprise. Huge one." West was definitely excited about receiving an offer from the Hokies and wants to start building relationships with the coaching staff. "It’s a special offer but they are all special. I will have to get up there and get to know the coaching staff better and start building a relationship." West has lots of interest in the Hokies with VT become a lot more involved in his recruitment. However, the Hokies do have a lot of work to do as they start to get involved with his recruitment. The Hokies aren't starting from scratch though as West did visit Virginia Tech earlier this spring as a part of Virginia Tech's loaded mid-January Junior Day. How did that visit go? "It was really good to meet the coaches and see what the program is all about," West said. That won't be his only visit before next football season if things go to plan as West told us that he is hoping to visit Blacksburg sometime during the next few months along with hoping to make trips to Nebraska, Penn State, and Clemson. Currently, Penn State, LSU, and Duke are among the schools recruiting West the hardest though Virginia Tech appears likely to become significantly more involved in his recruitment rather quickly. Penn State and Clemson are two schools that are showing a lot of interest in West, but haven't offered to date. West believes that those pair of schools may offer him soon, but knows that recruiting can be "unpredictable." Virginia Tech surprised Ethan West with an offer this week, but appear to quickly be making him a priority in the 2020 class especially at a tight end spot where the Hokies hadn't extended a 2020 offer at before offering West.

Ethan West in the Recruiting Rankings

West is ranked as the sixth best Virginia recruit, 298th best overall recruit, and ninth best ILB recruit in the 2020 class by 247 Sports. Virginia Tech is recruiting West as a tight end.
