Buford High School has developed into one of the top high school football programs in the state of Georgia, and Virginia Tech has tried to make the school a priority. Recently, the Hokies sent out an offer to 2020 athlete Elijah Turner out of Buford HS.

“I was shocked. VT Is one of the schools I would like to go to,” Turner told us adding that the offer was a “surprise” to him. Turner added that the Hokies offered him as a running back though recruiting services currently have him listed as an athlete.
Turner told us that he’s currently just “trying to take everything in” surrounding his recruitment, something that isn’t surprising given how Turner has received his first 4 offers this month. However, Turner did say that the Hokies have a “really good standing” in his recruitment. Turner added that Wake Forest is also standing out early on as well which may be due in part to the fact that Wake was the first school to offer Turner.
While Turner was surprised by the offer, the Hokies have been building the foundation for a while with Turner stating that VT is recruiting him the hardest at the moment. Turner told us that he doesn’t currently have any visits scheduled for this summer at the moment.
However, Turner did tell us that he hopes to visit Virginia Tech, North Carolina, and Wake Forest. Given the mutual interest between the Hokies and three-star OG Riley Simonds, Turner has at least one teammate that he could make the trip up to Blacksburg with.
Looking ahead in his recruitment, Turner told us that Pittsburgh and South Carolina are among the schools showing the most interest in him who haven’t offered. UNC is another school to keep an eye on getting involved especially with Turner hoping to visit Chapel Hill sometime this summer.
Elijah Turner’s offer list is likely to only grow in the coming weeks as more coaches come and evaluate the talented athlete out of Buford. However, the Hokies are in good shape early on at a school where VT is hoping to build a recruiting pipeline via talented players like Turner and Riley Simonds.
