Three-Star SF Au'Diese Toney Will Take Official Visit to Virginia Tech

Au Diese Toney 1
Au'Diese Toney has emerged as one of Virginia Tech's top targets in the 2019 class alongside big man Armando Bacot, wing Greg Gantt, and combo guard Anthony Harris. The Hokies have emerged as one of the top contenders for Toney who plans to take an official visit to Blacksburg at the end of May. Toney told us that he will be taking an official visit to Virginia Tech from May 29th to May 31st. This official visit will be the first one that Toney has taken. While this is earlier than normal for a high school junior to take an official visit, this may be due in part to the fact that Toney told us that he is considering reclassifying to the 2018 class. Whether he does or doesn't reclassify, he is allowed to take an official visit in May as a high school junior by NCAA rules even though it is uncommon for an official visit to happen this early in a player's recruitment. Toney told us that the Hokies are "very active" in his recruitment and recruiting him "very hard." In addition, Toney told us that VT is among the schools recruiting him the hardest along with Virginia, Pittsburgh, Kansas State, Providence, and Ole Miss. Toney's closest relationship with VT's coaching staff is with assistant Christian Webster. When we asked about his relationship with Webster, Toney said "we are very cool, that's my guy." His relationship with Webster could become much more important for the Hokies' hopes of getting him especially if he does end up reclassifying, shortening his timetable for making a decision. If Toney does stay in the 2019 class, he would have an opportunity to come in and play early for the Hokies with Ahmed Hill, Ty Outlaw, and Chris Clarke all set to graduate after this upcoming season. However, reclassifying would give him an opportunity to learn from those veterans next fall and probably gain a few minutes as a backup on the wing. Buzz Williams and the Hokies have an important official visit coming up with Au'Diese Toney that presents a great opportunity to improve their standing in his recruitment.
