Earlier this week, Virginia Tech extended an offer to breakout four-star ATH Jaden Payoute out of Richmond powerhouse L.C. Bird. Today, the four-star athlete made some big news after visiting Blacksburg.

Jaden Payoute announced today that he has committed to Virginia Tech. Payoute is the Hokies' eighth commit in their 2019 class and fourth four-star commit. Payoute is also the second top in-state recruit to commit to the Hokies this week joining Cam'Ron Kelly. The Hokies are also building a strong in-state class with four commits in Payoute, Kelly, Jahad Carter, and Jesse Hanson.
Payoute's rise has simply been remarkable after Campbell was his only offer at the start of May. In addition, Payoute's first power 5 offer came from Pittsburgh on June 3rd. Combine that with Payoute receiving a four-star rating from 247 Sports and it's simply remarkable how quickly Payoute has become one of the top recruits in Virginia with a solid offer list.
The Hokies recruited Payoute as an athlete, and he has the versatility to play wide receiver or cornerback at the next level. One thing that stands out with Payoute is his great speed that has been partially shown by how he won the state championship at 100 meters recently. In addition, Payoute is a great athlete with fantastic size at 6'3'' and 195 pounds, the type of size you want in a WR/DB prospect.
For the Hokies to get a player of Payoute's caliber to commit within a week of offering is a testament to the recruiting job done by the Hokies' staff especially on his visit over the weekend. The Hokies also likely benefited from his close relationship with current VT LB and former L.C. Bird teammate Rayshard Ashby.

“We have a very close relationship. I was with him when he committed and talk to him every week,” Payoute told us.
