Josh Jackson, Ricky Walker Will Represent Virginia Tech at ACC Media Days

Virginia Tech announced today that redshirt sophomore QB Josh Jackson and redshirt senior DT Ricky Walker will be their player representatives at ACC Media Days on July 18th in Charlotte. https://twitter.com/DavidTeelatDP/status/1015235309796196352 This will be the first time that Jackson and Walker have taken part in the ACC Media Days. Head coach Justin Fuente will also join the pair of players at the ACC's kickoff media event for the 2018 college football season. Walker's inclusion comes as a surprise to no one as Walker is the Hokies' top returning player after having 41 tackles, 12.5 total tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and 6 QB hurries during the 2017 season. In addition, Walker was ranked as our fifth best Hokie in 2017, the highest ranking for any returning player. The decision to send Josh Jackson is somewhat surprising given the offseason controversy about academics that briefly put his status into question. However, the Hokies have decided to send their star quarterback who is the face of the Hokies' offense after the graduation of star WR and 2017 All-ACC First Team honoree Cam Phillips. The fact that the Hokies are sending Jackson may also be another sign that Jackson is in strong position to hold on to his job despite the fact that Justin Fuente allowed for some open competition at that spot this past spring. The ACC Media Days will take place in Charlotte in less than two weeks with Fuente, Jackson, and Walker meeting with the media on July 18th.
