Virginia Tech Makes the Top 9 for Three-Star CB Dequan Watts

VT Cadets VT Flag 1
Three-star Atlanta CB Dequan Watts revealed his top 9 this week which included multiple power 5 programs. https://twitter.com/Dequanteouswat1/status/1015282184473776128 Virginia Tech were among the nine programs to make the cut for Watts alongside several other major programs including fellow ACC schools like Boston College, Georgia Tech, and Pittsburgh. Watts told us that the Hokies' coaching staff and how much they like him as a prospect. Two things that could also help Virginia Tech is the fact that the Hokies have a solid sports medicine program and that VT has a history of giving young cornerbacks the opportunity to play early, two things that are high priorities for Watts. Watts saw his recruitment take off in May with VT being a part of the rush of offers that he received. At that time, Watts told us that the Hokies were a part of his top 6 right after they offered alongside Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Boston College, West Virginia, and Virginia; all of whom made his top 9 except UVA. Right now, Watts doesn't appear likely to make a decision before the start of the season with his official visit schedule likely to give us some insight into the schools rising in his recruitment. For the Hokies to be a serious player in his recruitment, they'll need to get him on campus soon whether that's for an unofficial visit after the dead period or an official visit this fall. The Hokies have made the cut for Atlanta CB Dequan Watts, but VT has a lot of work ahead to become a top contender for him.
