After being drafted in the 15th round of this year’s MLB Draft by the New York Yankees, Virginia Tech pitcher Aaron McGarity decided to leave Blacksburg to start his pro career.
Yesterday, McGarity made his professional debut which went quite well.

McGarity through a perfect ninth inning for the GCL (Gulf Coast League) Yankees. As mentioned above, McGarity also had 2 strikeouts in what is a stellar debut for the Hokies’ best reliever this past season. If McGarity can keep pitching well, he made be headed for a return to Southwest Virginia quite soon.

However, McGarity wasn’t the only former Hokie to make his pro debut.

Despite not being drafted, Ryan Tufts found a home with the Arizona Diamondbacks’ organization and made his pro debut yesterday going 2-for-4 for the AZL Diamondbacks. As shown above, Tufts also had an RBI in what was a very good debut for the former Hokies’ infielder.
Congrats to Aaron McGarity and Ryan Tufts on a their professional debuts.
