Class of 2018
4* CB Kalon Gervin-Michigan State: At one point, Virginia Techite for Kalon Gervin. However, the Hokies have faded in the past couple of months and though Gervin will likely visit before his December decision, he seems bound to stay in-state and go to Michigain State. The Spartans are trending for Gervin right now while the Hokies’ hopes have decreased a lot in the past two months. (October 17th, 2017)
4* JUCO CB Jeremy Webb-Virginia Tech: Four-star CB Jeremy Webb has Virginia Tech among his top 4, but based on what he has told us, it’s hard not to see Virginia Tech as the favorite in his recruitment. West Virginia appears to be the top challenger, but the Hokies are well-positioned to land Webb at this point. See our full story on Webb here. (October 15th, 2017)
3* RB Cole Beck-Virginia Tech: Last night, three-star RB Cole Beck, the best recruit out of Blacksburg in years, received a Virginia Tech offer. While Beck did have a top 5 previously of Louisville, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Virginia, and ECU; it’s very hard not seeing Beck end up with the Hokies. While there’s a chance that VT not offering earlier could hurt their chances, that seems quite unlikely also. (August 6th, 2017) Update: Beck commits to Virginia Tech on October 6th, 2017.
4* DT Alim McNeill-NC State: Four-star DT Alim McNeill recently told us that NC State leads (as he also told HighSchoolOT.com) with the Wolfpack, Hokies, and UNC recruiting him the hardest. Right now, McNeill appears to be trending towards staying in his hometown of Raleigh and join teammate Trent Pennix on NC State. For VT to have a chance, they need to get him on campus for an official visit with it being most likely that they’re targeting the showdown with Clemson as the prime weekend for an official. However, it’s currently hard to see McNeill not ending up at NC State. (August 4th, 2017)
3* RB Mataeo Durant-Duke: Three-star South Carolina RB Mataeo Durant will announce his commitment Saturday and it seems most likely that he ends up at Duke. It’s unknown if the Hokies have room for another RB this class after getting Caleb Steward with numbers being tight with scholarships this cycle. Academics are also a very high priority for Durant and that makes turning down Duke even harder though VT and Wake Forest can’t be completely ruled out. (July 4th, 2017) Update: Durant commits to Duke on July 8th, 2017.
4* TE Kyle Pitts-Florida: Virginia Tech has made a large push to get talented four-star TE Kyle Pitts, but a visit to Florida has proven huge in Pitts’ recruitment, making Florida the heavy favorites with it appearing that Pitts is approaching a decision. While VT commits like Quincy Patterson and teammate Nasir Peoples will definitely be continuing to push hard for Pitts alongside the Hokies’ coaching staff, it’s very likely now that Pitts will end up a Gator. (June 28th, 2017) Update: Pitts commits to Florida on July 20th, 2017.
3* OT Jordan McFadden-Virginia Tech: Three-star OT Jordan McFadden is getting close to a decision with McFadden telling us that Virginia Tech leads in his recruitment. We’ll have more on McFadden soon but after a great Hokies’ visit and “alright” Duke visit, VT appears poise to land another one of their long-time top offensive line targets. (June 25th, 2017) Update: McFadden committed to Virginia Tech on July 4th, 2017.
3* RB Anthony Grant-Tennessee: Virginia Tech and Tennessee have been among the top contenders for three-star RB Anthony Grant but all indications are that Tennessee is trending for the Georgia RB. Grant’s 247 Crystal Ball has been trending the Vols’ way while Grant’s Twitter also points towards Tennessee with lots of recent attention given to the Vols by Grant. Virginia Tech will definitely keep making a hard push for him and can’t be ruled out yet, but Tennessee has become the heavy favorite for now. (June 24th, 2017) Update: Grant committed to Tennessee on June 25th, 2017.
3* RB Caleb Steward-Virginia Tech: Jacksonville RB Caleb Steward has flown under-the-radar regionally and nationally despite the fact that he has been a top RB target for Virginia Tech now for a couple months. Steward visited the Hokies this past week and from what we are hearing, Virginia Tech seems confident in their pursuit of Steward. On top of that, VT is the biggest football program to make his top 5 with the only in-state school being Group of 5 USF while VT also has another Jacksonville player committed in Chamarri Conner. Right now, it’s hard seeing Steward end up anywhere other than Blacksburg. (June 17th, 2017) Update: Steward committed to Virginia Tech on July 4th, 2017.
3* ATH Nadir Thompson-Virginia Tech: Virginia Tech has been making a strong push for Nadir Thompson even while he was committed to NC State, and Thompson told us recently that the Hokies are his leader. UVA and UNC appear to be the largest challengers though UNC isn’t among those pushing the hardest for him while UVA doesn’t have the same football prestige as the Hokies. Thompson seems very likely to end up in Blacksburg with it being possible that the Hokies could seal the deal this weekend with the three-star athlete set to visit Blacksburg. (June 13th, 2017) Update: Thompson committed to Virginia Tech on June 15th, 2017.
3* OT Blake Zubovic-Pittsburgh: Three-star OT Blake Zubovic released his top 5 today which did include Virginia Tech. While the Hokies do have some interest from Zubovic, the Pittsburgh area native seems to be heavily leaning towards home with us hearing that the Panthers are the favorite and the 247 Sports Crystal Ball also agreeing with that assessment. Virginia Tech may still have some time to make a move but not a lot with Zubovic planning to announce at the end of the month. At this point, Zubovic seems likely to end up at Pitt though the Hokies likely won’t give up the fight for him just yet. (June 5th, 2017) Update: Zubovic committed to Pittsburgh on June 14th, 2017.
3* CB DJ Crossen-Virginia Tech: Three-star CB DJ Crossen tweeted out that he will make his commitment on June 9th (updated: Crossen will commit on June 8th at 2:30pm) and decide between Virginia Tech and North Carolina. Crossen chose UNC over VT last August before decommitting from UNC in late January. VT appears to be the favorite with it being rare for a school to regain a decommit along with the 247 Crystal Ball overwhelmingly favoring VT while VT also has new commit Tre Turner pushing hard especially with the duo being longtime friends. While UNC definitely has a shot, Crossen seems very likely to choose Virginia Tech this time and give the Hokies arguably their top cornerback target. (May 31st, 2017) Update: Crossen committed to Virginia Tech on June 8th, 2017.
OT Gabriel Gonzalez-Virginia Tech: While Virginia Tech just offered NC OT Gabriel Gonzalez this past week, it already seems clear that Gonzalez is very high on the Hokies with VT shooting right up into the top group in his recruitment. We have more on this here but with the Hokies now hopping in his recruitment and offering him, VT is now the favorites to get the athletic offensive tackle and it wouldn’t be surprising if VT even Gonzalez sometime over the summer. (May 26th, 2017) Update: Gonzalez committed to NC State on June 24th, 2017.
3* LB Alan Tisdale-Virginia Tech: Earlier this spring, TechSideline.com reported that Virginia Tech led for four-star LB Alan Tisdale and that hasn’t seemed to change. At this point, the Hokies are the favorite to get Tisdale with VT seeing Tisdale as a potential replacement for Mook Reynolds in a couple years in the nickelwhip role. While Tisdale has been shown plenty of interest, VT seems to be in control in his recruitment and for now, it seems unlikely he ends up anywhere other than Blacksburg. (May 24th, 2017) Update: Tisdale committed to Virginia Tech on July 1st, 2017.
4* WR Tre Turner-Virginia Tech: Four-star WR Tre Turner has received tons of national interest but despite all the national interest, this recruiting battle has largely come down to Virginia Tech and UNC with Florida State being a sleeper. However, the Hokies are looking quite strong and while UNC did beat them for Dyami Brown, the Hokies seem set to go into North Carolina and poach one of the Tar Heel State’s top receivers away with us hearing that VT is standing quite well in his recruitment along with insiders around recruiting in North Carolina having Crystal Ball predictions on 247 Sports trending towards him. While UNC and FSU definitely can’t be ruled out, the Hokies have emerged as clear favorites here.. (May 18th, 2017) Update: Turner committed to Virginia Tech on May 31st, 2017.
3* DT Cam Goode-Virginia Tech: Three-star DT Cam Goode told us recently that he “might make a decision soon” with the Hokies being among those that have been recruiting him the hardest and the only close to home power 5 school on that list (the other 5 were Michigan State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Temple). The Hokies have been trending for Goode with VT making him a high priority and having him on campus this past spring went quite well for VT. At this point, the Hokies are the favorites for Cam Goode and it would be surprising to see him end up anywhere other than Blacksburg. (May 18th, 2017) Update: Goode committed to Virginia Tech on June 11th, 2017.
4* WR Darryl Jones-Maryland: Four-star WR Darryl Jones visited Virginia Tech this past weekend and after talking to him coming off that visit, it appears that Maryland is in the driver’s seat to gain his commitment even though Jones doesn’t plan to commit till sometime over the summer. Virginia Tech can’t be ruled out but Maryland is in great position to poach one of the top recruits in the 757 for the second-straight year with more in our article on Jones here. (April 17th, 2017) Update: Jones committed to Maryland on August 1st, 2017.
3* RB Trent Pennix-Virginia Tech: Virginia Tech has made three-star NC RB Trent Pennix one of their top RB targets, and the Hokies have plenty of momentum especially after Pennix had a strong visit yesterday. According to an article title on VTScoop.com, the Hokies have the lead for Pennix and from what I’ve been hearing, Virginia Tech is confident that Pennix will end up in Blacksburg. While the Hokies still have some work to do, they are in the driver’s seat to get Trent Pennix. (April 2nd, 2017) Pennix commits to NC State on June 9th, 2017.
4* RB Jaelen Gill-Ohio State: Virginia Tech seemed to have a good amount of traction at one point for four-star RB Jaelen Gill, but the Hokies eemed to lose traction over the past month or two and it seems extremely likely that Gill will end up committing to Ohio State. Virginia Tech’s pursuit of Gill has colled off over the past month or so as reality has struck about how VT didn’t have much of a chance at Gill especially having to go against Ohio State who made Gill a priority. (March 1st, 2017) Update: Gill commits to Ohio State on March 1st, 2017.
3* QB Quincy Patterson-Virginia Tech: Quincy Patterson told us that the Hokies are his leaders after visiting Blacksburg recently while also saying that he is looking into making his commitment sooner after taking lots of visits this past weekend. Virginia Tech had a strong visit with Patterson and the Hokies are definitely the heavy favorites to gain a commitment from the quarterback from Chicago. (February 26th, 2017) Update: Patterson committed to Virginia Tech on February 27th, 2017.
3* TE James Mitchell-Virginia Tech: Tight end James Mitchell seems to be the top tight end target for the Hokies with Virginia Tech having the advantage of him being a Southwest Virginian. Mitchell is a guy that the Hokies have to seal the deal and get and right now, VT seems well positioned to do just that. (August 20th, 2016)
4* CB Kalon Gervin: Four-star CB Kalon Gervin has announced that he will make his college decision on December 2nd. Gervin’s final 6 includes Virginia Tech, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Florida, and Nebraska. Virginia Tech was the favorite for Gervin over the summer, but the Hokies have faded some with Michigan State emerging recently as the favorite. However, the Hokies still are in the hunt in what has been an unpredictable recruitment. (October 13th, 2017)
5* DE KJ Henry: Five-star DE KJ Henry announced today that he will make his collegiate decision on December 20th. Virginia Tech is among Henry’s top 5 with Alabama and Clemson being seen as the favorites. Henry hasn’t taken a visit to Blacksburg yet this fall, but we do expect that he will take an official visit to Virginia Tech before his decision. (October 7th, 2017)
3* RB Cole Beck: Cole Beck committed to Virginia Tech over Pittsburgh and North Carolina, more here. (October 6th, 2017
After visiting Virginia Tech this past weekend, three-star RB Cole Beck announced that he will be announcing his commitment tomorrow night. The Hokies are the heavy favorites for Beck with Pittsburgh and North Carolina also being among his finalists. (October 5th, 2017)
Three-star RB Cole Beck released a top 3 today which included Virginia Tech, North Carolina, and Pittsburgh. The Hokies became the favorite for Beck as soon as they offered in late summer with the Hokies having the home turf advantage for the Blacksburg native. However, UNC and Pittsburgh are both making strong pushes for Beck in what is an interesting ACC Coastal recruiting battle. (September 14th, 2017)
3* CB Jermaine Waller: Three-star CB Jermaine Waller has committed to Virginia Tech. More here. (July 27th, 2017)
4* LB Dax Hollifield: According to Dax Hollifield via the “Fuente Football” Twitter account, Hollifield will take an official visit to Virginia Tech this fall for the Hokies’ game against Clemson. The four-star LB had previously told us that he will be in Blacksburg next weekend as well for the VT recruiting BBQ. Hollifield is one of the Hokies’ top targets and has been for a long time now as VT will look to make a big move when Hollifield comes to campus next weekend. (July 15th, 2017)
LS Oscar Shadley: Elite long snapper Oscar Shadley committed to Virginia Tech today. More here (July 10th, 2017)
3* OT Jordan McFadden: Virginia Tech added their second commit of the Fourth of July via three-star OT Jordan McFadden. More here. (July 4th, 2017)
3* RB Caleb Steward: Virginia Tech added their first commit of the Fourth of July via three-star RB Caleb Steward. More here. (July 4th, 2017)
3* LB Alan Tisdale: Three-star LB Alan Tisdale committed to Virginia Tech. More here (July 1st, 2017)

3* CB Nasir Peoples: Cornerback Nasir Peoples became Virginia Tech’s fourth 2018 commit tonight. More here (February 22nd, 2017)
3* DB Chamarri Conner: The Virginia Tech Hokies got a welcome surprise today as they gained a commitment from high three-star safety Chamarri Conner out of Jacksonville, Florida. See more on his commitment here. (November 9th, 2016)

Class of 2019
4* WR Jacoby Pinckney-Virginia Tech: Virginia Tech were one of the first to offer talented 2019 WR Jacoby Pinckney and have made him a top offensive priority since. VT has consistently among the top schools for Pinckney, and the Hokies are currently feeling really good about their standing with Pinckney. Pinckney had another strong visit recently, and the Hokies are definitely the heavy favorites at the moment for the South Carolina WR. (October 19th, 2017)
DL Adarious Jones-Virginia Tech: Virginia Tech only offered 2019 Bishop Sullivan DL Adarious Jones a few weeks ago but after visiting for the Blacksburg Bash, the Hokies have emerged as the favorites here with Jones having a great visit. On top of that, Jones has a lot of interest in staying in-state and while he is likely to gain more major offers soon, the Hokies are in the driver’s seat at the moment. (August 4th, 2017)
TE Nick Gallo-Virginia Tech: Nick Gallo currently has four offers including his only power 5 offer from Virginia Tech which he earned at a recent camp in Blacksburg. Nick Gallo is the brother of Virginia Tech’s starting center Eric Gallo, and the Hokies have a reputation for doing well on the recruiting trail with recruits who have older brothers that went to VT plenty of times including with the Edmunds and Fuller families. Along with that, the Hokies are doing well in Pennsylvania in the 2018 recruiting cycle and appear to have some momentum up in the Keystone State. At this point, the Hokies are the heavy on-paper favorites for Nick Gallo. (June 24th, 2017)
4* DL/OL Ben Smiley-Virginia Tech: While it’s unknown whether Ben Smiley will end up on the offensive or defensive line, it’s clear that he is a high priority for Virginia Tech with Smiley also being extremely high on the Hokies since VT offered. While we’re still over 18 months away from National Signing Day for the Class of 2019, VT is in the driver’s seat to get Smiley at this point. (June 17th, 2017)
4* OLB Traveon Freshwater: Four-star LB Traveon Freshwater updates us on his recruitment here. (October 11th, 2017)
4* DE Savion Jackson: Four-star DE Savion Jackson tweeted out his top 10 tonight which included Virginia Tech, Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, Louisville, NC State, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Unsurprisingly, the Hokies have Jackson as a top priority and after their immense 2018 success in North Carolina, the Hokies should be a serious threat for one of the top 2019 NC recruits. (October 10th, 2017)
4* WR Jacoby Pinckney: Four-star WR Jacoby Pinckney had a “good” visit to Virginia Tech this past weekend and told us that the loyalty of Virginia Tech’s fans stood out to him. Pinckney doesn’t have a public leader, but he did tell us that Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, and Indiana are recruiting him the hardest. At this point, Virginia Tech appears to be the favorite on-paper though Pinckney does have a visit to Indiana coming up when they play Michigan. (October 2nd, 2017)
ATH Jahad Carter: Virginia Tech gained a commitment from Richmond athlete Jahad Carter today. More here. (September 24th, 2017)
3* RB Jordan Houston: Three-star RB Jordan Houston breaks down his recruitment and his visit to the VT-WVU game here. (September 11, 2017)
4* S Lewis Cine: Four-star safety Lewis Cine received an offer from Virginia Tech this past week. Cine told us that the offer was a surprise have a great chance to get involved with Cine currently not having a leader in his recruitment. Cine did say that Michigan and Florida are recruiting him the hardest with Cine having the best relationship with Michigan DC Don Brown. Cine does plan to take some visits to schools along the East Coast mentioning Virginia Tech, Florida, and North Carolina specifically. (August 26th, 2017)
4* ATH JR Walker: Four-star ATH JR Walker recently told us that he doesn’t have a leader but that NC State is recruiting him the hardest. The four-star ATH has been receiving moderate interest from the Hokies so far, but that could change as some restrictions on contacting 2019 recruits go away at the beginning of September. (August 9th, 2017)
OLB Traveon Freshwater: OLB Traveon Freshwater told us that South Carolina currently leads for him. The talented linebacker from Elizabeth City, NC told us that he does hope to visit Virginia Tech this fall with the Hokies recruiting him hard at this point. The challenge VT has here is how Freshwater is from the eastern part of NC, making this very much an out-of-state recruiting battle, but definitely one where the Hokies have a shot especially if they can get him on campus this fall. (July 21st, 2017)
4* OT Doug Nester: Four-star OT Doug Nester released his top 5 recently which included Virginia Tech, Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, and West Virginia. It’s not often when you see four of the five power 5 conferences represented in the top 5 for a recruit but that is the case here with the Hokies being a serious contender though they face a tough battle with trying to get him out of West Virginia and with Ohio State actually being the closest to home for Nester along with the large threats Alabama and Florida are in any recruiting battle. (June 22nd, 2017)
4* WR Jacoby Pinckney: Four-star WR Jacoby Pinckney recently told us that Virginia Tech, Georgia, North Carolina, Indiana, and Wake Forest are currently his top schools with VT, UNC, and Indiana recruiting him the hardest. The Hokies have made Pinckney a high priority at WR and in general in 2019, and are looking good early on in their pursuit of him. (June 22nd, 2017)
CB Myles Bell: CB Myles Bell out of Florida powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas is taking a visit to the Hokies today. Virginia Tech and Illinois are the only two schools listed by 247 Sports to have offered the Florida cornerback so far with the Hokies seeming to have him among their top group of DB targets in the 2019 class. (June 15th, 2017)
OG Riley Simonds: Georgia OG Riley Simonds told us that Virginia Tech is the leader in his recruitment with his reason being that he “loves how they do things and I love the family environment.” The Hokies were the first offer with Rutgers and FAU since offering while Arkansas and Penn State are showing lots of interest but at this point, the Hokies are in the driver’s seat in this recruitment. (May 15th, 2017)
4* OG Caedan Wallace: Four-star OG Caedan Wallace told us that Virginia Tech, Penn State, and Oklahoma are currently standing out to him with the Nittany Lions and Rutgers recruiting the New Jersey native the hardest. Virginia Tech may not be as active in New Jersey in the 2018 recruiting cycle but that appears to be more of a one year deal with Wallace being high on the offensive line board in the 2019 class. (May 8th, 2017)
LB Drake Thomas: Recently offered LB Drake Thomas told us that he doesn’t currently have a group of schools standing out in his recruitment but he did say that Virginia Tech, UNC, Michigan, and NC State were recruiting him the hardest. Thomas is likely to be a high priority for the Hokies at the linebacker spot in the Class of 2019 especially with VT making him a 2019 priority early and not having many linebackers in that class at this point. (May 8th, 2017)
4* WR Isaiah Hazel: Four-star WR Isaiah Hazel recently told us that Virginia Tech and Maryland currently lead among his six offers with the Hokies and Terps also being the schools that are recruiting him the hardest. The Hokies are going to be a major player in the recruitment of Hazel though the Terps do have the in-state advantage that makes Maryland a serious threat. No one should be surprised if VT and Maryland are both involved with Hazel till the end of his recruitment. (May 2nd, 2017)
4* RB Devyn Ford: 2019 four-star RB Devyn Ford visited the Hokies yesterday and Virginia Tech should be a player in the recruitment of Ford. Ford is certain to be one of the Hokies’ top overall targets in the Class of 2019 with the Hokies looking to get one of America’s top running backs out of a Fredericksburg area where the Hokies have had a good amount of success in the past with other top guys including Vinny Mihota and Tyjuan Garbutt. Clemson seems also likely to be a major player in Ford’s recruitment while also being a big player in the recruitment of his teammate and four-star 2018 OT Nana Asiedu. (April 21st, 2017)
WR Dean Engram: 2019 wide receiver Dean Engram tweeted out a video of him visiting Virginia Tech today. Engram is likely to be high on the board for the Hokies at WR in the Class of 2019 and Virginia Tech seems to definitely have some traction early on for him. Engram is one of the Hokies’ numerous targets in the Washington D.C. area which seems to have a good amount of quality 2019 recruits. (April 11th, 2017)
4* DE Joseph Wete: Four-star DE Joseph Wete told us that among his 5 offers, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin are his two favorites followed by Pittsburgh with Wete being a big fan of Wisconsin’s defensive scheme and being impressed by Virginia Tech’s “history of success both athletically and academically.” Wete is likely near the top of the defensive line board and the Hokies are in great position early on. (April 9th, 2017)
4* OT Darnell Wright: After visiting Tuesday, four-star OT Darnell Wright received an offer from the Hokies as the West Virginia OT seems to be right near the top of Virginia Tech’s offensive line board alongside other four-stars like fellow West Virginian Doug Nester and Minnesotan Quinn Carroll. Wright told us that he loved his visit on Tuesday mentioning how he enjoyed being with the coaches, players, and seeing the facilities. Wright also told us that West Virginia, Louisville, and Tennessee are in contact with him the most so far with visits to Louisville, Florida, Tennessee, Nebraska, and Miami coming soon along with having also taken one to WVU. (April 7th, 2017)
4* WR Jacoby Pinckney: Four-star SC WR Jacoby Pinckney is visiting the Hokies today. The Hokies are an early favorite for Pinckney with VT getting involved early and making Pinckney a big priority in their 2019 recruiting. Expect the Hokies to be a serious contender throughout the recruitment of Pinckney. (April 4th, 2017)
4* OT Quinn Carroll: 2019 four-star OT Quinn Carroll is taking a visit to Virginia Tech today. The Hokies definitely are looking to be a player in Carroll’s recruitment with Carroll very likely to be a national recruit in the 2019 class. (April 1st, 2017)
WR Isaiah Hazel: 2019 MD WR Isaiah Hazel told us that Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Kentucky are all at the top of his recruitment currently among his six offers in no particular order. Hazel told us that Virginia Tech and Maryland are in contact with him the most as early on, this is definitely setting up to be a VT vs. Maryland recruiting battle with the Hokies looking to poach Hazel from his home state though a lot more offers seem likely to come. (March 2nd, 2017)
