Class of 2019

3* RB Jordan Houston-Virginia Tech: Three-star RB Jordan Houston was on campus for Virginia Tech’s Junior Day and all signs are that his visit went well. VT has made him a priority and is among those standing out and recruiting him the hardest. Syracuse is the only other school in both of those categories and while the Orange can’t be taken lightly, the Hokies appear in great shape for a top offensive priority in the 2019 class. (February 18th, 2018)

4* CB Nyquee Hawkins-Virginia Tech: Four-star CB Nyquee Hawkins recently visited Virginia Tech and all signs are that his visit went extremely well. There is a growing confidence around the Hokies that they can land the talented four-star CB which would be a huge get for this class. Hawkins is a priority target for VT in 2018 and from what we are hearing, we feel confident enough at this point to make a prediction in VT’s favor. However, the Hokies still have a fight to make sure they beat out schools like Penn State (once considered the frontrunner) and others to get Hawkins’ commitment. (February 15th, 2018)

4* WR Tayvion Robinson-Virginia Tech: Four-star WR Tayvion Robinson has emerged as one of the top recruits in the 757 in the 2019 class and a priority at WR for the Hokies. Robinson visited VT for their Junior Day and from what we’ve heard, the Hokies have put themselves in great position to get the 757 star. RIght now, confidence is high that the Hokies will land Robinson with it being hard to see Robinson ending up anywhere else for the time being. (January 15th, 2018)

3* OG Jesse Hanson-Virginia Tech: (January 15th, 2018) Update: Jesse Hanson committed to VT on February 8th, 2018.

3* DB Nick Cross-Maryland: Three-star DB Nick Cross doesn’t have a leader, but Cross visited Maryland twice this fall and the DeMatha Catholic DB told us that the coach whom he has the best relationship with is Maryland DBs coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim while the head coach he has the best relationship with is Maryland’s DJ Durkin. Cross’s relationship with Maryland is quite strong and while he doesn’t mention a leader, it’s hard to not see the Terps as the frontrunner.

VT and Notre Dame are among those recruiting Cross the hardest alongside Maryland, but the Terps are in great shape with the relationships they are building. The Hokies and Fighting Irish definitely are still in contention, but the Terps have emerged as the favorites for Cross at this point. However, neither of those schools should be ruled out at all for now. (December 29th, 2017)

3* OG Riley Simonds-Virginia Tech: In the past, we’ve provided updates that show Virginia Tech leading for Riley Simonds and as of right now, all signs point towards Simonds ending up in Blacksburg. The talented three-star guard would be a big get not only because he’s one of VT’s top offensive line targets, but also because of the pipeline it could help jumpstart at Georgia powerhouse Buford. Simonds would be a big early addition for VT and right now, the Hokies are the heavy favorites. (December 13th, 2017)

3* QB Taquan Roberson-Penn State: (October 25th, 2017) Update: Roberson committed to Penn State on October 26th, 2017.

4* WR Jacoby Pinckney-Virginia Tech: Virginia Tech were one of the first to offer talented 2019 WR Jacoby Pinckney and have made him a top offensive priority since. VT has consistently among the top schools for Pinckney, and the Hokies are currently feeling really good about their standing with Pinckney. Pinckney had another strong visit recently, and the Hokies are definitely the heavy favorites at the moment for the South Carolina WR. (October 19th, 2017)

3* DL Adarious Jones-Virginia Tech: Virginia Tech only offered 2019 Bishop Sullivan DL Adarious Jones a few weeks ago but after visiting for the Blacksburg Bash, the Hokies have emerged as the favorites here with Jones having a great visit. On top of that, Jones has a lot of interest in staying in-state and while he is likely to gain more major offers soon, the Hokies are in the driver’s seat at the moment. (August 4th, 2017)

TE Nick Gallo-Virginia Tech: Nick Gallo currently has four offers including his only power 5 offer from Virginia Tech which he earned at a recent camp in Blacksburg. Nick Gallo is the brother of Virginia Tech’s starting center Eric Gallo, and the Hokies have a reputation for doing well on the recruiting trail with recruits who have older brothers that went to VT plenty of times including with the Edmunds and Fuller families. Along with that, the Hokies are doing well in Pennsylvania in the 2018 recruiting cycle and appear to have some momentum up in the Keystone State. At this point, the Hokies are the heavy on-paper favorites for Nick Gallo. (June 24th, 2017)

3* DL/OL Ben Smiley-Virginia Tech: While it’s unknown whether Ben Smiley will end up on the offensive or defensive line, it’s clear that he is a high priority for Virginia Tech with Smiley also being extremely high on the Hokies since VT offered. While we’re still over 18 months away from National Signing Day for the Class of 2019, VT is in the driver’s seat to get Smiley at this point. (June 17th, 2017)

3* RB Jordan Houston: Three-star RB Jordan Houston talks about his Junior Day visit here. (February 18th, 2018)

4* CB Sheridan Jones: Sheridan Jones has reclassified from 2020 to 2019. More here. (January 13th, 2018)

4* OLB/DE Traveon Freshwater: Four-star OLB/DE Traveon Freshwater has a pair of schools standing out for him including Virginia Tech. More on him here. (January 3rd, 2018)

4* OT Darnell Wright, 4* RB Derrian Brown, 3* LB Dean Ferguson: Check out this recruiting update on Darnell Wright, Derrian Brown, and Dean Ferguson here. (January 2nd, 2018)

3* LB Jahmar Brown: Virginia Tech is among those standing out for three-star LB Jahmar Brown. More on him here. (December 30th, 2017)

4* OT Bryan Hudson: Four-star OT Bryan Hudson recently broke down his recruitment including five schools that are standing out. More here. (December 25th, 2017)

4* DE Joseph Wete: Four-star DE Joseph Wete told us that Virginia Tech, Penn State, and Michigan are among the schools recruiting him the hardest while not excluding schools not listed. Wete is looking to cut down his list to 5 sometime by April as well. Wete has the versatility to play either DE or OLB in college with VT being open to him playing either position. Right now, the Hokies are among those in decent shape along with Penn State and Michigan given their mention, but Wete still appears fairly wide open in his recruitment. (December 14th, 2017)

4* ATH/CB JR Walker: Four-star athlete JR Walker recently told us that he plans to visit Virginia Tech for their Junior Day on the weekend of January 14th. Walker told us that he doesn’t any schools standing out at the moment. VT is recruiting Walker to play cornerback and hosted him for a visit against Clemson. Walker told us that he enjoyed that visit and was impressed by the atmosphere at Lane Stadium. Walker also visited Duke, UNC, and NC State during this past season. Expect VT to be a top contender for Walker throughout his recruitment. (December 13th, 2017)

3* DE Adarious Jones: Three-star defensive line Adarious Jones recently told us that he doesn’t have a leader, but Virginia Tech continues to recruit him the hardest. Jones told us that VT is recruiting him primarily as a defensive end. At his size, Jones may have the versatility to play DE or DT depending on which spot makes the most sense. For now, VT continues to be the favorite for the talented 757 defensive lineman. (December 12th, 2017)

4* S Khalid Martin: Four-star S Khalid Martin recently told us that he doesn’t have a leader or any school standing out in his recruitment, but Virginia Tech and Maryland are recruiting him the hardest. Martin hopes to take a visit to Virginia Tech this spring as well. While Martin is being recruited harder by the Hokies and Terps, he has the best coaching relationship with NC State assistant Aaron Henry. (December 7th, 2017)

4* S Litchfield Ajavon: Check out our latest recruiting notes including the top 7 for Litchfield Ajavon here. (December 5th, 2017)

4* DB Briton Allen: Four-star DB Briton Allen talks his VT offer, his Hokie connection, and his recruitment here. (December 1st, 2017)

3* QB Jalon Jones: Three-star QB Jalon Jones updates us on his recruitment after decommitting from Mississippi State here. (November 29th, 2017)

5* DL Antonio Alfano: Five-star DL Antonio Alfano released his top 12 which included Virginia Tech. While the Hokies did make the cut for Alfano, VT’s chances aren’t great with Penn State and Ohio State being among the favorites for the five-star New Jersey lineman. (November 25th, 2017)

3* OG Jesse Hanson: Three-star OG Jesse Hanson talked about his recruitment, VT offer, and recent Virginia Tech visit here. (November 22nd, 2017)

3* OG Riley Simonds: Three-star OG Riley Simonds talks about his recruitment including his leader and recent VT visit here. (November 20th, 2017)

4* OLB Traveon Freshwater: Four-star LB Traveon Freshwater updates us on his recruitment here. (October 11th, 2017)

4* DE Savion Jackson: Four-star DE Savion Jackson tweeted out his top 10 tonight which included Virginia Tech, Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, Louisville, NC State, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Unsurprisingly, the Hokies have Jackson as a top priority and after their immense 2018 success in North Carolina, the Hokies should be a serious threat for one of the top 2019 NC recruits. (October 10th, 2017)

4* WR Jacoby Pinckney: Four-star WR Jacoby Pinckney had a “good” visit to Virginia Tech this past weekend and told us that the loyalty of Virginia Tech’s fans stood out to him. Pinckney doesn’t have a public leader, but he did tell us that Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, and Indiana are recruiting him the hardest. At this point, Virginia Tech appears to be the favorite on-paper though Pinckney does have a visit to Indiana coming up when they play Michigan. (October 2nd, 2017)

ATH Jahad Carter: Virginia Tech gained a commitment from Richmond athlete Jahad Carter today. More here. (September 24th, 2017)

3* RB Jordan Houston: Three-star RB Jordan Houston breaks down his recruitment and his visit to the VT-WVU game here. (September 11, 2017)

4* S Lewis Cine: Four-star safety Lewis Cine received an offer from Virginia Tech this past week. Cine told us that the offer was a surprise have a great chance to get involved with Cine currently not having a leader in his recruitment. Cine did say that Michigan and Florida are recruiting him the hardest with Cine having the best relationship with Michigan DC Don Brown. Cine does plan to take some visits to schools along the East Coast mentioning Virginia Tech, Florida, and North Carolina specifically. (August 26th, 2017)

4* ATH JR Walker: Four-star ATH JR Walker recently told us that he doesn’t have a leader but that NC State is recruiting him the hardest. The four-star ATH has been receiving moderate interest from the Hokies so far, but that could change as some restrictions on contacting 2019 recruits go away at the beginning of September. (August 9th, 2017)

OLB Traveon Freshwater: OLB Traveon Freshwater told us that South Carolina currently leads for him. The talented linebacker from Elizabeth City, NC told us that he does hope to visit Virginia Tech this fall with the Hokies recruiting him hard at this point. The challenge VT has here is how Freshwater is from the eastern part of NC, making this very much an out-of-state recruiting battle, but definitely one where the Hokies have a shot especially if they can get him on campus this fall. (July 21st, 2017)

LB Drake Thomas: Recently offered LB Drake Thomas told us that he doesn’t currently have a group of schools standing out in his recruitment but he did say that Virginia Tech, UNC, Michigan, and NC State were recruiting him the hardest. Thomas is likely to be a high priority for the Hokies at the linebacker spot in the Class of 2019 especially with VT making him a 2019 priority early and not having many linebackers in that class at this point. (May 8th, 2017)

4* WR Isaiah Hazel: Four-star WR Isaiah Hazel recently told us that Virginia Tech and Maryland currently lead among his six offers with the Hokies and Terps also being the schools that are recruiting him the hardest. The Hokies are going to be a major player in the recruitment of Hazel though the Terps do have the in-state advantage that makes Maryland a serious threat. No one should be surprised if VT and Maryland are both involved with Hazel till the end of his recruitment. (May 2nd, 2017)

4* RB Devyn Ford: 2019 four-star RB Devyn Ford visited the Hokies yesterday and Virginia Tech should be a player in the recruitment of Ford. Ford is certain to be one of the Hokies’ top overall targets in the Class of 2019 with the Hokies looking to get one of America’s top running backs out of a Fredericksburg area where the Hokies have had a good amount of success in the past with other top guys including Vinny Mihota and Tyjuan Garbutt. Clemson seems also likely to be a major player in Ford’s recruitment while also being a big player in the recruitment of his teammate and four-star 2018 OT Nana Asiedu. (April 21st, 2017)

WR Dean Engram: 2019 wide receiver Dean Engram tweeted out a video of him visiting Virginia Tech today. Engram is likely to be high on the board for the Hokies at WR in the Class of 2019 and Virginia Tech seems to definitely have some traction early on for him. Engram is one of the Hokies’ numerous targets in the Washington D.C. area which seems to have a good amount of quality 2019 recruits. (April 11th, 2017)

4* DE Joseph Wete: Four-star DE Joseph Wete told us that among his 5 offers, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin are his two favorites followed by Pittsburgh with Wete being a big fan of Wisconsin’s defensive scheme and being impressed by Virginia Tech’s “history of success both athletically and academically.” Wete is likely near the top of the defensive line board and the Hokies are in great position early on. (April 9th, 2017)
