Virginia Tech Football Recruiting Board

Welcome to The Tech Lunch Pail recruiting board where you can get the latest updates on Virginia Tech football recruiting board and see who Virginia Tech has their eyes on.

Class of 2018

4* LB/S Alan Tisdale-Virginia Tech: Earlier this spring, reported that Virginia Tech led for four-star LB/S Alan Tisdale and that hasn’t seemed to change. At this point, the Hokies are the favorite to get Tisdale with VT seeing Tisdale as a potential replacement for Mook Reynolds in a couple years in the nickelwhip role. While Tisdale has been shown plenty of interest, VT seems to be in control in,his recruitment and for now, it seems unlikely he ends up anywhere other than Blacksburg. (May 24th, 2017)

4* WR Tre Turner-Virginia Tech: Four-star WR Tre Turner has received tons of national interest but despite all the national interest, this recruiting battle has largely come down to Virginia Tech and UNC with Florida State being a sleeper. However, the Hokies are looking quite strong and while UNC did beat them for Dyami Brown, the Hokies seem set to go into North Carolina and poach one of the Tar Heel State’s top receivers away with us hearing that VT is standing quite well in his recruitment along with insiders around recruiting in North Carolina having Crystal Ball predictions on 247 Sports trending towards him. While UNC and FSU definitely can’t be ruled out, the Hokies have emerged as clear favorites here. (May 18th, 2017)

3* DT Cam Goode-Virginia Tech: Three-star DT Cam Goode told us recently that he “might make a decision soon” with the Hokies being among those that have been recruiting him the hardest and the only close to home power 5 school on that list (the other 5 were Michigan State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Temple). The Hokies have been trending for Goode with VT making him a high priority and having him on campus this past spring went quite well for VT. At this point, the Hokies are the favorites for Cam Goode and it would be surprising to see him end up anywhere other than Blacksburg. (May 18th, 2017)

JUCO OT Chase Brown-Virginia Tech: JUCO OT Chase Brown has gotten 5 offers in the past week but after being the first offer, Virginia Tech is already in the lead for the Northern Virginia native. While it is quite early on, VT has emerged as,favorites for Brown and at this point, it’s hard not to see the Hokies getting Brown from the JUCO ranks even with other power 5 schools like Minnesota and TCU having offered. (May 12th, 2017)

3* CB Donte Burton-Virginia Tech: The former UNC commit recently told us that Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State, Oregon, and West Virginia are standing out to him at this point and are among those recruiting him the hardest. However, we’re hearing that the Hokies are standing out above the rest, and that Virginia Tech has emerged as the favorite to get Donte Burton with Burton also having a great relationship with VT CBs Coach Brian Mitchell. While Burton could definitely end up elsewhere and a school like Oregon has lots of momentum after getting five commits this past weekend, Virginia Tech is definitely in the driver’s seat at this point. (May 1st, 2017)

4* WR Darryl Jones-Maryland: Four-star WR Darryl Jones visited Virginia Tech this past weekend and after talking to him coming off that visit, it appears that Maryland is in the driver’s seat to gain his commitment even though Jones doesn’t plan to commit till sometime over the summer. Virginia Tech can’t be ruled out but Maryland is in great position to poach one of the top recruits in the 757 for the second-straight year with more in our article on Jones here. (April 17th, 2017)

3* RB Trent Pennix-Virginia Tech: Virginia Tech has made three-star NC RB Trent Pennix one of their top RB targets, and the Hokies have plenty of momentum especially after Pennix had a strong visit yesterday. According to an article title on, the Hokies have the lead for Pennix and from what I’ve been hearing, Virginia Tech is confident that Pennix will end up in Blacksburg. While the Hokies still have some work to do, they are in the driver’s seat to get Trent Pennix. (April 2nd, 2017)

3* OT Aidan Rafferty-Virginia Tech: Aidan Rafferty may not have a leader but he said Virginia Tech has been standing out to him and in contact with him the most. Rafferty also has built some great relationships with the VT coaching staff and the Hokies have made Rafferty a,priority at OT. At this point, Rafferty seems likely to end up in Blacksburg with Maryland likely being the biggest challenger. (March 10th, 2017)

4* RB Jaelen Gill-Ohio State: Virginia Tech seemed to have a good amount of traction at one point for four-star RB Jaelen Gill, but the Hokies eemed to lose traction over the past month or two and it seems extremely likely that Gill will end up committing to Ohio State. Virginia Tech’s pursuit of Gill has colled off over the past month or so as reality has struck about how VT didn’t have much of a chance at Gill especially having to go against Ohio State who made Gill a priority. (March 1st, 2017) Update: Gill commits to Ohio State on March 1st, 2017.

3* QB Quincy Patterson-Virginia Tech: Quincy Patterson told us that the Hokies are his leaders after visiting Blacksburg recently while also saying that he is looking into making his commitment sooner after taking lots of visits this past weekend. Virginia Tech had a strong visit with Patterson and the Hokies are definitely the heavy favorites to gain a commitment from the quarterback from Chicago. (February 26th, 2017) Update: Patterson committed to Virginia Tech on February 27th, 2017.

3* LB Keshon Artis-Virginia Tech: At this point, Virginia Tech seems to be the clear leader for Keshon Artis and while things can change a lot over the coming months, the Hokies are in the driver’s seat to get Artis from Oscar Smith. VT has made Artis a top priority at the linebacker spot and he’s a guy that the Hokies likely will try to get in their class as soon as possible to be able to use him to start recruiting other top in-state players including fellow 757 linebacker Teradja Mitchell. (February 4th, 2017)

4* LB Dax Hollifield-Virginia Tech: The Hokies have made Dax Hollifield a priority and seem to be in the driver’s seat for the four-star LB from North Carolina. Hollifield has maintained that he has a top 4 but the Hokies seem to be separation themselves with Hollifield sending out some very pro-VT tweets as well. Right now, we feel confident enough to make a prediction that Hollifield will commit to the Hokies. (November 28th, 2016)

3* TE James Mitchell-Virginia Tech: Tight end James Mitchell seems to be the top tight end target for the Hokies with Virginia Tech having the advantage of him being a Southwest Virginian. Mitchell is a guy that the Hokies have to seal the deal and get and right now, VT seems well positioned to do just that. (August 20th, 2016)

3* RB Lyn-J Dixon: Three-star RB Lyn-J Dixon released a top 12 yesterday that included Virginia Tech. Dixon was offered a while ago by the Hokies and to this point, the Hokies haven’t appeared to gain a lot of traction though that could be changing. (May 25th, 2017)

4* DT Tyler Friday: Four-star DT Tyler Friday releases a top 15 that included Virginia Tech last night. While the Hokies did make the cut for Friday, VT doesn’t have any traction at this point for Friday and isn’t a contender for him for now. (May 25th, 2017)

3* OT Aidan Rafferty: Virginia Tech and Virginia are standing out for Aidan Rafferty in what is setting up to be a commonwealth clash on the recruiting trail. More here. (May 23rd, 2017)

3* CB Tanner Ingle: Virginia Tech is among the leaders for three-star CB Tanner Ingle. More here. (May 22nd, 2017)

3* LB Eriq Gilyard: Three-star LB Eriq Gilyard released a top 6 this evening that included Virginia Tech, Michigan, Maryland, Kentucky, NC State, and UCF. The Hokies have seen their interest in Gilyard decrease with VT having multiple linebackers ahead of him on their board including Dax Hollifield and Keshon Artis though we could see the Hokies’ interest in Gilyard pick up if VT misses out on many of their top LB targets. (May 21st, 2017)

4* WR Darryle Simmons: Four-star WR Darryle Simmons committed to Virginia Tech today. More on his commitment here. (May 14th, 2017)

Four-star WR Darryle Simmons is announcing his commitment sometime today with Virginia Tech being seen as a slight frontrunner though Penn State, West Virginia, and Tennessee definitely all have a shot here. We really haven’t heard much about Simmons and at this point, VT and PSU would be the two most likely choices at this point. (May 14th, 2017)

3* CB Rayshad Williams: Three-star CB Rayshad Williams told us recently that Virginia Tech and Tennessee are tied for the lead in his recruitment with those 2, Mississippi State, Arkansas, and Virginia recruiting him the hardest. This is setting up to be a UT vs. VT battle with Justin Fuente looking to go back to Memphis to get a top CB target while Tennessee looks to keep Williams in-state. (May 13th, 2017)

3* RB Mataeo Durant: Virginia Tech is among a trio of schools that are standing out for three-star RB Mataeo Durant. More on his recruitment here. (May 12th, 2017)

4* DB Amari Burney: Four-star DB Amari Burney told us that he will release his five finalists this week ahead of his June 1st announcements with Virginia Tech set to be among the five finalists for Burney. While the Hokies haven’t been talked about much publicly with Burney, Virginia Tech has at least earned a spot in his final group though Ohio State and Florida appear to be the favorites at this point along with being the schools that are recruiting him the hardest. (May 8th, 2017)

JUCO OT Chase Brown: JUCO OT Chase Brown picked up his first offer from Virginia Tech this past week with Brown also naming the Hokies his leader and saying that VT, Minnesota, Maryland, and UCF are recruiting him the hardest. Virginia Tech definitely has the advantage of being the first to offer while Brown is a Virginia native which should only help the Hokies more in his recruitment. (May 6th, 2017)

JUCO OT TJ Bradley: JUCO OT TJ Bradley told us that Penn State and West Virginia are standing out for him with the Nittany Lions and Maryland recruiting him the hardest at this point. Virginia Tech has some work to do to become a serious contender but with the Hokies just offering Bradley along with his teammate Chase Brown, VT definitely has a great opportunity here to become a contender. (May 6th, 2017)

3* ATH/QB DeJuan Ellis: Three-star ATH/QB DeJuan Ellis recommitted to Virginia Tech tonight. More here (May 4th, 2017)

3* OL Jake Kradel: Three-star interior offensive lineman Jake Kradel released his top 7 via Twitter this evening which included Virginia Tech, Ohio State, UCLA, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Maryland, and Rutgers. Ohio State is seen as the favorite for the three-star offensive lineman from Pennsylvania with the Hokies, and any other school in his top 7 not named Ohio State, having a whole lot of work to do if they are to beat out the Buckeyes for Kradel. (May 4th, 2017)

3* RB Mataeo Durant: Three-star RB Mataeo Durant told us that Duke, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest are not only recruiting him the hardest but are also the three schools that are standing out to him the most. The Hokies haven’t had the most success getting some of their top RB targets but VT is definitely in the hunt for Durant though Duke is arguably the favorite currently for Durant. (May 4th, 2017)

3* ATH DeJuan Ellis: Three-star QB/ATH DeJuan Ellis decommitted from Virginia Tech this evening. More here (May 2nd, 2017)

3* CB Tre Douglas: Four-star CB Tre Douglas released his top 7 via Twitter this evening which included Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Clemson, LSU, Florida State, Stanford, and Vanderbilt. The Hokies have the potential to be a sleeper in this group though there hasn’t been much talk about Douglas and Virginia Tech lately. Florida State, Clemson, and LSU may have a regional advantage here with FSU and Clemson being a nearby school and LSU being the SEC powerhouse to make the cut. Virginia Tech will have a whole lot of work ahead but after not seeing much talk with him, VT definitely has a shot. (April 22nd, 2017)

4* WR Tre Turner: Four-star WR Tre Turner released his top 10 on Twitter yesterday which included Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Florida State, Oklahoma, Miami, Louisville, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, and NC State. Turner recently told us that NC State is recruiting him the hardest but at this point, Virginia Tech seems to be a favorite in his recruitment with the Hokies having Turner as a top priority in the Class of 2018. (April 22nd, 2017)

4* CB Jairus Brents, 4* OT Nana Asiedu: Four-star cornerback Jairus Brents and four-star OT Nana Asiedu both visited Virginia Tech yesterday along with 2019 four-star RB Devyn Ford. Virginia Tech seems to have some traction with Brents though hometown power Louisville is the favorite on-paper here. Meanwhile, Nana Asiedu visited with his teammate Devyn Ford and while the Hokies are a serious contender with Ford, Clemson is in great position to get Asiedu. (April 21st, 2017)

3* DT Joe Kane: Three-star DT Joe Kane has committed to Virginia Tech. More on that here. (April 20th, 2017)

4* OT Rasheed Walker: Four-star OT Rasheed Walker released a top 6 yesterday evening that included Virginia Tech, Penn State, Ohio State, Maryland, North Carolina, and Rutgers. Walker is definitely one of the top offensive line targets for the Hokies with Virginia Tech being a serious contender here with a good amount of traction in Walker’s recruitment at this point. (April 20th, 2017)

3* DT Jordan Redmond: Three-star DT Jordan Redmond told us that Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Minnesota, Virginia, and USF are recruiting him the hardest with the Hokies, Rutgers, and UCF being the schools in contact with him the most while also not having a leader or top group. The Hokies clearly have plenty of interest in Redmond and are making one of the stronger pushes among those who have offered Redmond so far. (April 18th, 2017)

5* DE KJ Henry, 4* WR Darryl Jones, 3* LB Alan Tisdale, 3* DE John Morgan, 3* WR Armani Chatman, 3* DE David Green: The Virginia Tech Hokies have a big visit weekend including all five of these guys with there being no doubt that the biggest visitor being five-star DE KJ Henry and four-star WR Darryl Jones. The Hokies definitely are an underdog in the battle for Henry but there’s no doubt that simply getting him on campus will be beneficial with the Hokies definitely being in the running. Meanwhile, Virginia Tech is definitely a contender for Darryl Jones but Maryland appears likely to also be a serious challenger here.

Virginia Tech is definitely a major player in the recruitments of both Armani Chatman and Alan Tisdale with Chatman being fairly high on the board among the Hokies’ in-state targets while Alan Tisdale is definitely near the top of the board at linebacker. John Morgan is another top target at DE and Virginia Tech definitely is a threat in his recruitment. (April 15th, 2017)

3* TE James Mitchell: Three-star TE James Mitchell recently told us that Virginia Tech, Tennessee, and Duke are recruiting him the hardest with Mitchell saying he has the best relationships with VT TEs coach James Shibest and Duke assistant Kirk Benedict. Mitchell visited Virginia Tech last weekend and said that he enjoyed his visit and that him and the VT coaching staff are “real comfortable with each other.” While Mitchell doesn’t have a leader in his recruitment, it’s hard not to see the Hokies as the favorite for Mitchell. (April 14th, 2017)

4* LB Dax Hollifield, 3* CB DJ Crossen, 3* WR Bryce Thompson: The Virginia Tech Hokies had a few talented recruits on campus including commit Bryce Thompson plus two of the top defensive recruits in North Carolina, Dax Hollifield and DJ Crossen. At this point, the Hokies seem to be favorites for both Hollifield and Crossen who would definitely boost the #NC2VT movement. (April 13th, 2017)

4* WR Tre Turner: Four-star WR Tre Turner is visiting Virginia Tech today after their had been rumors that Turner was going to be a part of last weekend’s big visit Saturday that included guys like Payton Wilson, Jamal Elliott, and James Mitchell. Turner is one of the Hokies’ priorities in the Class of 2018 and Virginia Tech is definitely a favorite in Turner’s recruitment with the Greensboro native showing a whole lot of interest in the Hokies and making Virginia Tech a priority himself. (April 11th, 2017)

4* LB Payton Wilson: Four-star LB Payton Wilson tweeted out a top 4 this evening that included Virginia Tech, Clemson, North Carolina, and Ohio State. While Clemson is likely the favorite, all four schools are definitely in the hunt with Virginia Tech definitely being in contention here to land one of the top linebackers in America. (April 9th, 2017)

4* RB Jamal Elliott, 3* TE James Mitchell, 3* CB Rayshad Williams: Four-star RB Jamal Elliott, three-star TE James Mitchell, and three-star CB Rayshad Williams are all visiting Virginia Tech today as they tweeted out yesterday. Elliott and Mitchell are two of Virginia Tech’s top offensive targets and the Hokies are serious contenders for both with us still seeing Mitchell ending up in Blacksburg at this point. Virginia Tech also appears to be in the hunt to get Williams with VT definitely having him high on their defensive back board. (April 8th, 2017)

5* DE KJ Henry: Five-star DE KJ Henry released a top 10 this evening that included Virginia Tech along with Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Louisville, Penn State, South Carolina, Georgia, Pittsburgh, and Charlotte. The Hokies are definitely a sleeper in Henry’s recruitment but face a very uphill battle in pursuit of one of the top defensive ends in America. (April 5th, 2017)

3* DE John Morgan: John Morgan talks about the seven schools that stand out to him here. (April 5th, 2017)

4* LB Payton Wilson: According to Ricky LaBlue of, four-star LB Payton Wilson is expected to visit Virginia Tech this upcoming weekend. Wilson tweeted out recently that he plans to release a top 4 soon and with him visiting the Hokies this upcoming weekend and having VT in his top 5, it appears very likely that VT will make that cut ahead of his May 1st announcement. (April 3rd, 2017)

OG/DL Joe Kane: Virginia Tech offered 2018 North Carolina recruit Joe Kane today with the Hokies being the second power 5 program to have offered him joining Syracuse. Kane has been offered as a defensive tackle though we are hearing he could also end up at offensive guard if he were to commit to the Hokies. (April 1st, 2017)

4* WR Dillon Spalding, 4 RB Ronnie Walker, 3 DT Cam Goode, 3* RB Trent Pennix: Four-star RB Ronnie Walker, four-star WR Dillon Spalding, three-star DT Cam Goode, and RB Trent Pennix are visiting Virginia Tech today. The Hokies are off to good starts in these recruitments with Virginia Tech trending well for Pennix, and being a serious contender for Walker, Spalding, and Goode with the Hokies looking to get at least 2 RBs and 2 DTs in this class while. (April 1st, 2017)

4* DT Dante Stills: Four-star DT Dante Stills tweeted out a top 6 yesterday that included Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Penn State, North Carolina, Louisville, and Oklahoma. West Virginia adefinitely seems to be the early favorite for Stills as the in-state school, but the Hokies should be a player in Stills’ recruitment while Penn State and Louisville definitely have the potential to also be significant challengers as regional players in this battle. (March 27th, 2017)

OT Jordan McFadden: South Carolina OT Jordan McFadden recently released a top 12 that included the Virginia Tech Hokies among others including 8 other ACC programs plus Michigan State, Missouri, and Rutgers. At this point, the Hokies seem to be one of the biggest players in McFadden’s recruitment with Virginia Tech definitely seeming to have the SC OT high on their offensive line board. (March 27th, 2017)

4* RB Ronnie Walker: Virginia Tech became the 13th school to offer four-star RB Ronnie Walker this season out of Hopewell High School. With the Hokies offering, they immediately become a serious contender on-paper in Walker’s recruitment but it will be interesting to see how much interest there is between Walker and the Hokies. (March 2nd, 2017)

3* TE Kyle Pitts: Three-star TE Kyle Pitts released a top 8 this evening that included Virginia Tech, Maryland, Miami, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Florida, UCLA, and Rutgers. Penn State is a surprise omission as the Nittany Lions had been seen as the favorites, meaning that VT may be the new frontrunner as one of Pitts’s teammates is Virginia Tech commit Nasir Peoples. (March 2nd, 2017)

4* OT Nana Asiedu, 3* DT Alim McNeil: We’ve decided to rescind our predictions of Nana Asiedu to Clemson and Alim McNeil to Virginia Tech. Clemson has lost a lot of momentum with Asiedu as he named Penn State his leader recently while it’ll be interesting to see if the Hokies can work their way into being a serious contender for the Northern Virginia recruit.

Meanwhile, Alim McNeil’s recruitment has blown up since we made our first prediction so sticking by it doesn’t make sense at this point, but the Hokies do seem to be the most likely for now still with McNeil being a top priority DT for VT in the Class of 2018. (March 2nd, 2017)

3* QB Quincy Patterson: Three-star QB Quincy Patterson committed to Virginia Tech today. More on his commitment here. (February 27th, 2017)

4* LB Dax Hollifield: Four-star linebacker Dax Hollifield tweeted out a top 9 that included Virginia Tech, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame, Stanford, and Wake Forest. Hollifield is one of the top targets across all positions for Virginia Tech and the Hokies continue to be in a strong position for him with us standing by our current prediction of Hollifield to VT. (February 23rd, 2017)

3* CB Nasir Peoples: Cornerback Nasir Peoples became Virginia Tech’s fourth 2018 commit tonight. More here (February 22nd, 2017)

3* QB Quincy Patterson: Five stand out for three-star QB Quincy Patterson. More on that here. (February 17th, 2017)

OT Aiden Rafferty: Virginia Tech offered D.C. OT Aiden Rafferty this past week along with a few other schools and Rafferty told us that he will be Virginia next Wednesday and Virginia Tech next weekend at their next big junior event and says he has the best relationship with Maryland’s offensive line coach. The Hokies seem set to be players here, but Maryland has done a great job recruiting around the D.C. metro so far under D.J. Durkin, making this a tough battle. (February 11th, 2017)

RB Mychale Salahuddin: D.C. RB Mychale Salahuddin recently told us that Maryland, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Oklahoma, and Arkansas are in contact with him the most with him having the best relationship with the coaches at Maryland while also having visits set for at least Virginia Tech, Virginia, and Penn State this spring. At this point, Maryland would be a good bet as an early favorite here even though Salahuddin doesn’t currently have a leader in his recruitment. (February 11th, 2017)

3* DL Darnell Jeffries: Georgia DL Darnell Jeffries told us that he will be taking visits to Virginia Tech on February 18th and Alabama on February 25th. For more on Jeffries, follow this link over to Inside The Lunch Pail. (February 5th, 2017)

3* DE John Morgan: Three-star DE John Morgan told us that the schools that are in contact with him the most include Virginia Tech, Penn State, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Boston College, and Rutgers plus has visits planned to Syracuse, Maryland, and Rutgers in January along with planning on visiting Wake Forest in February and “possibly” Virginia Tech on January 15th. The Hokies have some work to do with Morgan and if there is a possible frontrunner here, it seems like it may be Penn State while Maryland definitely should be a serious player and have the in-state advantage. (January 5th, 2017)

4* WR Tre Turner: Four-star athlete Tre Turner reveals five schools that stand out and gives us insight into his recruitment. Check it out right here. (December 21st, 2016)

3* DB Chamarri Conner: The Virginia Tech Hokies got a welcome surprise today as they gained a commitment from high three-star safety Chamarri Conner out of Jacksonville, Florida. See more on his commitment here. (November 9th, 2016)

3* WR/ATH Bryce Thompson: After being offered last Sunday, SC WR/ATH Bryce Thompson became Virginia Tech’s first commit from the Class of 2018. See more right here. (July 23rd, 2016)

Class of 2019

OG Riley Simonds: Georgia OG Riley Simonds told us that Virginia Tech is the leader in his recruitment with his reason being that he “loves how they do things and I love the family environment.” The Hokies were the first offer with Rutgers and FAU since offering while Arkansas and Penn State are showing lots of interest but at this point, the Hokies are in the driver’s seat in this recruitment. (May 15th, 2017)

4* OG Caedan Wallace: Four-star OG Caedan Wallace told us that Virginia Tech, Penn State, and Oklahoma are currently standing out to him with the Nittany Lions and Rutgers recruiting the New Jersey native the hardest. Virginia Tech may not be as active in New Jersey in the 2018 recruiting cycle but that appears to be more of a one year deal with Wallace being high on the offensive line board in the 2019 class. (May 8th, 2017)

LB Drake Thomas: Recently offered LB Drake Thomas told us that he doesn’t currently have a group of schools standing out in his recruitment but he did say that Virginia Tech, UNC, Michigan, and NC State were recruiting him the hardest. Thomas is likely to be a high priority for the Hokies at the linebacker spot in the Class of 2019 especially with VT making him a 2019 priority early and not having many linebackers in that class at this point. (May 8th, 2017)

4* WR Isaiah Hazel: Four-star WR Isaiah Hazel recently told us that Virginia Tech and Maryland currently lead among his six offers with the Hokies and Terps also being the schools that are recruiting him the hardest. The Hokies are going to be a major player in the recruitment of Hazel though the Terps do have the in-state advantage that makes Maryland a serious threat. No one should be surprised if VT and Maryland are both involved with Hazel till the end of his recruitment. (May 2nd, 2017)

4* RB Devyn Ford: 2019 four-star RB Devyn Ford visited the Hokies yesterday and Virginia Tech should be a player in the recruitment of Ford. Ford is certain to be one of the Hokies’ top overall targets in the Class of 2019 with the Hokies looking to get one of America’s top running backs out of a Fredericksburg area where the Hokies have had a good amount of success in the past with other top guys including Vinny Mihota and Tyjuan Garbutt. Clemson seems also likely to be a major player in Ford’s recruitment while also being a big player in the recruitment of his teammate and four-star 2018 OT Nana Asiedu. (April 21st, 2017)

WR Dean Engram: 2019 wide receiver Dean Engram tweeted out a video of him visiting Virginia Tech today. Engram is likely to be high on the board for the Hokies at WR in the Class of 2019 and Virginia Tech seems to definitely have some traction early on for him. Engram is one of the Hokies’ numerous targets in the Washington D.C. area which seems to have a good amount of quality 2019 recruits. (April 11th, 2017)

4* DE Joseph Wete: Four-star DE Joseph Wete told us that among his 5 offers, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin are his two favorites followed by Pittsburgh with Wete being a big fan of Wisconsin’s defensive scheme and being impressed by Virginia Tech’s “history of success both athletically and academically.” Wete is likely near the top of the defensive line board and the Hokies are in great position early on. (April 9th, 2017)

4* OT Darnell Wright: After visiting Tuesday, four-star OT Darnell Wright received an offer from the Hokies as the West Virginia OT seems to be right near the top of Virginia Tech’s offensive line board alongside other four-stars like fellow West Virginian Doug Nester and Minnesotan Quinn Carroll. Wright told us that he loved his visit on Tuesday mentioning how he enjoyed being with the coaches, players, and seeing the facilities. Wright also told us that West Virginia, Louisville, and Tennessee are in contact with him the most so far with visits to Louisville, Florida, Tennessee, Nebraska, and Miami coming soon along with having also taken one to WVU. (April 7th, 2017)

4* WR Jacoby Pinckney: Four-star SC WR Jacoby Pinckney is visiting the Hokies today. The Hokies are an early favorite for Pinckney with VT getting involved early and making Pinckney a big priority in their 2019 recruiting. Expect the Hokies to be a serious contender throughout the recruitment of Pinckney. (April 4th, 2017)

4* OT Quinn Carroll: 2019 four-star OT Quinn Carroll is taking a visit to Virginia Tech today. The Hokies definitely are looking to be a player in Carroll’s recruitment with Carroll very likely to be a national recruit in the 2019 class. (April 1st, 2017)

WR Isaiah Hazel: 2019 MD WR Isaiah Hazel told us that Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Kentucky are all at the top of his recruitment currently among his six offers in no particular order. Hazel told us that Virginia Tech and Maryland are in contact with him the most as early on, this is definitely setting up to be a VT vs. Maryland recruiting battle with the Hokies looking to poach Hazel from his home state though a lot more offers seem likely to come.
