Hokies Recruiting: 3-Star CB Kareem Felder Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies have turned their recruiting focus to the Class of 2016 with Virginia Tech hosting their first Junior Day today which includes 5-star DT Rashan Gary. The Hokies are hoping to get add some more players to their recruiting class this weekend, and Virginia Tech has gotten off to a good start this weekend. Cornerback Kareem Felder of St. Fracnes Academy in Baltimore, Maryland became the fourth commit for the Virginia Tech Hokies from the Class of 2016. Felder is also the second cornerback and second player from Maryland to commit to the Hokies joining Upper Marlboro, Maryland CB Myles Wolfolk. Felder is rated as a three-star by 247 Sports and ESPN while Rivals somehow only has him as a two-star which will change over the course of this recruiting cycle. Felder is also ranked as the 43rd best cornerback and 14th best junior in Maryland by the 247 Sports Composite while Rivals has him as the 29th best junior in Maryland. Felder is 5'1'' and about 170 pounds, but he definitely is someone who can put a big hit on someone. Felder seems like someone who can add 15 to 20 pounds within a couple of years which will make him an even bigger hitting cornerback or free safety. Felder has very good ball skills while being very agile to make quick cuts to recover and make a play on a quick curl, or beat the wide receiver to a corner pass and get an interception. Felder is also a fairly good athlete that can go up against bigger receivers and break up passes. Felder's man coverage skills are not great overall, and will be something that he needs to improve. However, his zone coverage skills are fairly solid and his hard-hitting style might make him a good fit to potentially be a rover in the future similar to Kyshoen Jarrett. Like Jarrett, Felder is not the biggest guy, but is solid in zone coverage and definitely knows how to tackle along with some big hits. Felder's big hit tackle technique is solid as he knows how to use his shoulder to help get a wrap on the player he is trying to tackle, and make sure that receiver can't break the tackle. Felder is an intriguing player and while he doesn't seem like a four-star recruit just yet, he definitely isn't a two-star commit and is going to be a solid collegiate player if he continues to improve especially in man coverage. For Torrian Gray, this is his first commit as the primiary recruiter in the Class of 2016 and with Zohn Burden focusing on the 757, you have to wonder if Gray should be shifted to Maryland. Gray has been a very good recruiter for the Hokies in the DMV area, and could be very valuable in Maryland where the Hokies are pursuing multiple big-time players including 4-star WR Tino Ellis and 4-star DT Ellison Jordan. Kareem Felder is a very good addition for the Hokies as a player that will definitely rise some over the course of this recruiting cycle.
