The Virginia Tech Hokies had a strong start in out-of-state recruiting with the first six commits for Virginia Tech being all from outside of Virginia. Jovonn Quillen became the first in-state player to commit to the Hokies on February 26th. Overall, the Hokies have done fairly well in building a strong foundation for this recruiting class headlined by 3-star QB Logan Byrd who is rated as a 4-star by Rivals.
Today, the Hokies have received some more good news.

Reggie Floyd is a running back from Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, Virginia who is the Hokies' second in-state and eighth overall commit from the Class of 2019. The Hokies have been gaining more momentum on the recruiting trail and they have built a very deep recruiting class.
Floyd is rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN while Rivals and 247 Sports both have him as a three-star recruit. Floyd is ranked 259th in the ESPN Jr. 300 and eighth in the state of Virginia by ESPN while Rivals has him as Virginia's 17th best recruit, and the 247 Sports Composite has him as the 15th best junior in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The 247 Sports Composite has him ranked as the 29th best athlete though it seems unlikely he plays safety instead of running back at the collegiate level. Rivals and ESPN have him as the 28th best running back which just shows the difference in the recruiting rankings for ESPN and Rivals.
Floyd has good but not great speed, but his speed has a lot of longevity which makes him hard to chase down once he gets some space. Floyd has great agility which helps him turn some 3 or 4 yard runs into 10 to 15 yard gains or even more depending on the play. Floyd has a very long stride once he gets into open space which gives him more deceptive speed that can cause some problems.
Reggie Floyd does show some strength on tape, but he is someone that could definitely add some weight to his 5'11'', 190-pound frame. Floyd also is solid as a pass catcher and should be a very good third-down back wherever he ends up. Floyd has the talent to battle for early playing time, and could be the guy that becomes the third-down back as soon as 2016 with J.C. Coleman graduating after next season.
Floyd becomes the third player to commit to the Hokies that had Torrian Gray as his primary recruiter. Gray's other two main commits were Kareem Felder and Troy Pride while he was also a recruiter for Myles Wolfolk. Gray has gotten off to a very good start recruiting in the DMV which will be valuable in this recruiting cycle.
The Hokies may also be starting to build a pipeline from Stonewall Jackson High School to Blacksburg as Greg Stroman came from Stonewall Jackson in 2014 and Tim Settle is coming in 2015. For now, the Hokies now will have three straight years with a player coming from Stonewall Jackson though that could change since National Signing Day is still 11 months away.
Reggie Floyd is a very strong addition to a Virginia Tech recruiting class that already has a strong foundation to build on over the next few months.
Update: Reports emerged last night that the Hokies have recruited Reggie Floyd to play safety and not running back. As a safety, Floyd's toughness and hard hitting make him a fit at the rover position, but it seems clear that running back is his most talented position.
It would surprise me to see Floyd at safety instead of running back though that could depend on who else the Hokies get in this recruiting class. However, there is no doubt that Floyd is a good addition whether he does end up at running back or safety.
