Former Hokie QB Tyrod Taylor Signs With the Buffalo Bills

Tyrod Taylor had a very successful career in Blacksburg with the Hokies winning two ACC Championships while Taylor played for the Hokies. Taylor's best season with the Hokies came in 2010 when he won the ACC Player of the Year along with leading the Hokies to an ACC Championship victory despite losing to Boise State and James Madison to start the season. Taylor was selected in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens and has been the backup for Joe Flacco for four years. Taylor rarely touched the field in his four years in Baltimore, but had 19 completions in 35 pass attempts for 199 passing yards and two interceptions that came in two different seasons. Taylor has been waiting for a good chance to get a starting quarterback job and after four years in Baltimore, he became a free agent this offseason. Now, Taylor has a new home. https://twitter.com/buffalobills/status/576079438993047552 The Buffalo Bills signed Tyrod Taylor today as he was also introduced to the media in Western New York. Taylor will enter a three-way quarterback battle that includes Matt Cassel and another native of the 757, E.J. Manuel. The Buffalo Bills will likely have a fairly open quarterback competition with Cassel being the early favorite to get the job. However, Taylor is definitely the wild card in this quarterback competition especially since this is his first chance in the NFL to earn a starting job after backing up Joe Flacco for four years. Taylor is only 25 years old, but knows that not many opportunities to become a starting quarterback can be found via free agency. The Bills do not seem like a team that plan on drafting a quarterback with a lot of hope that Manuel can develop into a franchise quarterback. However, Taylor is only one year older than Manuel and has the potential to be a solid starting quarterback due in large part to his above-average mobility, and his quality leadership. Tyrod Taylor has been deserving of a chance to be a starting quarterback in the NFL and the former Hokie now has his chance with the Buffalo Bills.
