Hokies Wrestling: Kevin Dresser is the ACC Coach of the Year

The Virginia Tech Hokies had another strong season in wrestling with Kevin Dresser leading the Virginia Tech wrestling program to some big wins and an ACC Regular Season title. The Hokies also finished 10th in the national championships while also beating eventual national champion Ohio State in a dual-meet in the fall. Yesterday, Dresser received the news that he has been named the ACC Coach of the Year for the third straight year. Dresser has proven to be one of the top wrestling coaches in the country and is continuing to build Virginia Tech into a stronger program that will be considered one of the favorites to win a national title at the beginning of next season. Dresser's dominance of the regular season with an undefeated ACC record and some big wins against programs like Ohio State made him very worthy of being the ACC Coach of the Year. The Hokies also had a fairly young team with Devin Carter being the only significant contributor that will be leaving the program. Kevin Dresser once again had a very strong team of wrestlers that produced four All-Americans in Devin Carter (3rd place at NCAAs), Nick Brascetta (4th place at NCAAs), Ty Walz (7th place at NCAAs), and Zach Epperly (7th place at NCAAs). The Hokies also saw the emergence of multiple freshmen headlined by Epperly who definitely has the talent to be a national champion before he graduates. Kevin Norstrem and Jared Haught were two other redshirt freshmen who have already become solid team contributors for Virginia Tech. Dresser has built Virginia Tech into a wrestling powerhouse that will bring a strong team back next season led by Brascetta, Epperly, and Joey Dance. Dresser has done a very good job of developing top-tier wrestlers while also doing a great job of recruiting, especially out of the powerhouse Christiansburg High School program that he built before taking over in Blacksburg. Kevin Dresser has turned Virginia Tech into the kings of ACC wrestling, and built a program that has given Hokie fans tons of excitement about the potential for them to win a national title. Dresser is definitely deserving of being the ACC Wrestling Coach of the Year for the third season in a row.
