Hokies Recruiting: Virginia Tech is in the Top 5 for Four-Star QB Jawon Pass

The Virginia Tech Hokies have had a strong start on the recruiting trail for the Class of 2016 with ten commits so far headlined by four-star athlete Reggie Floyd from Northern Virginia. The Hokies had borderline four-star QB Logan Byrd as their first commit, but he decommitted and is now committed to North Carolina. However, Scot Loeffler has been active on the recruiting trail pursuing quarterbacks, and that has put the Hokies in the top 5 for one of the best quarterbacks of the Class of 2016. https://twitter.com/Puma_Blessed2/status/590895096607956993 Four-star quarterback Jawon Pass of Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia has offers from 22 schools across the country, but has cut his list down to the final five of Auburn, Louisville, Alabama, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina. This is not a surprise after Pass named the same top 5 in an early list of the leaders in his recruitment. Pass is ranked as a five-star prospect and the 14th best player in the nation by 247 Sports while the 247 Sports Composite has him as the nation's 47th best player and Rivals has him as 117th best junior. Pass is ranked as the fifth best dual-threat quarterback by Rivals, second-best by the 247 Sports Composite, and the best dual-threat quarterback by 247 Sports' traditional rankings. Pass is already one of five quarterbacks that are in the Elite 11 finals hosted by ESPN around the time of Nike's The Opening in Oregon. Pass is clearly one of the top junior quarterbacks in the country and his final five schools will all look to get him. North Carolina seems like the longshot for Jawon Pass with Logan Byrd on the roster, but the Hokies also seem like one of the longshots for getting Pass. The fact that the Hokies have a chance is quite impressive, and shows how good of a job that Scot Loeffler has done recruiting quarterbacks to a Virginia Tech program especially with the Hokies having chances to get Pass or fellow highly-rated QB Dwayne Haskins. Alabama is always a contender for any recruit, but reports have it that Auburn and Louisville are in the lead for Pass. Bobby Petrino has had some great offenses over the years, and the Louisville program has been growing a lot to where it's at in the ACC. However, Auburn definitely seems like the favorite especially since Jeremy Johnson is a junior and there seems to be no replacement that has emerged just yet. The door would be open for Pass to be the Auburn starting quarterback by 2017 and it is going to be hard to beat Gus Malzahn. However, the Hokies have a chance at Jawon Pass and that is sometimes all you need.
