2015 NFL Draft: The Washington Redskins Select VT DB Kyshoen Jarrett in the Sixth Round

Entering the 2015 NFL Draft, it looked like there might be a chance that the Virginia Tech Hokies' streak of 21 straight years with at least one player drafted ending. Unsurprisingly, the Hokies did not have a single player selected in the first two days and three rounds of this year's draft. However, the Hokies did have three players who were seen as potential day three picks in Laurence Gibson, Detrick Bonner, and Kyshoen Jarrett. Gibson was seen as the most likely Hokie to be picked today, but he is not the first Hokie off the board. Instead, that honor goes to Jarrett. Kyshoen Jarrett was selected 181st overall in the sixth round by the Washington Redskins in the 2015 NFL Draft. The selection of Jarrett means that the Hokies now have had at least one player selected in the NFL Draft for 22 straight years. It is not a guarantee that Jarrett will make the Redskins as sixth and seventh round aren't always certain to make their teams, but Jarrett will be ready to give it everything he has. Personally, it would surprise me if Jarrett isn't active for the opening week of the 2015 NFL season for Washington unless he is injured. Jarrett is not the best in pass coverage and his ball hawking skills are below average, but Jarrett is definitely a very good player as a box-to-box safety. Jarrett is a very good run-defending safety that closes in on running backs quite well and can make quality, open-field tackles. The best thing with Jarrett is his toughness which is off the charts and will rub off on his teammates. For the Redskins, Jarrett will provide some quality depth at strong safety immediately while also being a very good special teams player that could even be used as a punt returner if the Redskins need one. Kyshoen Jarrett extends the Hokies' streak of having at least one player taken in the NFL Draft to 22. Plus, many Hokie fans that are also Washington fans will be happy to have a tough player like Jarrett on their team. Congrats to Kyshoen Jarrett on being selected in the 2015 NFL Draft.
