Hokies Recruiting: Three-Star LB Tavante Beckett Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies started this week strong in the recruiting front getting 2016 OLB Emmanuel Belmar and 2017 DB Devante Smith on the same day. Throughout this week, the Hokies have been preparing for their big recruit cookout with tons of highly-regarded recruits visiting Blacksburg. The Hokies started off today strong by getting a commitment from three-star OT Patrick Kearns. However, Kearns turned out to not be the only player to commit to the Hokies. Three-star linebacker Tavante Beckett of Indian River High School in Chesapeake, Virginia was the second player to commit to the Hokies today at the Hokies' recruit cookout. Beckett has seven offers and chose the Hokies over offers from Wisconsin, Indiana, East Carolina, and others. Beckett could be a valuable recruiter at his own school where 2016 four-star ILB and Alabama commit Jaquan Yulee, and 2017 four-star athlete Devon Hunter play with Beckett. The 757 linebacker is ranked as the 31st best player in Virginia by the 247 Sports Composite and 21st best by Rivals. Beckett is also ranked as the 66th best outside linebacker by the 247 Sports Composite. Tavante Beckett is a quality, under-the-radar pickup for the Hokies that should be an extremely solid commit. Beckett is a tough, hard worker that might not be an elite athlete, but is definitely a productive player. Beckett is a quality tackler and projects as someone who could be a future strongside linebacker for the Hokies as a quality blitzing linebacker, and as someone who can contain running backs to the line of scrimmage on most running plays. Primary recruiter Bryan Stinespring has done a very good job at sealing the deal on the commitment of Beckett, and is likely very focused on trying to get his Indian River teammates, Jaquan Yulee and Devon Hunter. Beckett could be valuable in trying to get Yulee to flip his commitment from Alabama to the Hokies. Tavante Beckett is a great, under-the-radar addition for the Hokies that has the potential to maybe see the field as soon as the 2016 season. Don't be surprised if Beckett rises some in the recruiting rankings over the course of this fall.
