Hokies Track and Field: Virginia Tech Ranked Fourth In Preseason Indoor Track Rankings

For Virginia Tech fans, much of the attention athletically among active sports has been on men's basketball after their win over #4 Virginia, women's basketball with their 13-1 start, and wrestling with their top 5 ranking and status as national title contender. Meanwhile, Justin Fuente and the Hokies have been making some noise in recruiting for football over the past month. All of these programs would love to be the ones to bring Virginia Tech its first national title with wrestling having the best shot this season of those listed above. However, one program may have a better chance than those listed above. https://twitter.com/VT_Track/status/684805288445251584 Virginia Tech's men's indoor track and field team has been ranked fourth in the nation by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The preseason ranking of fourth is the highest in program history and as one of two ACC teams in the top 25, the Hokies are national title contenders and ACC favorites. The Hokies will be looking to make a big jump nationally this year after finishing 28th in last year's national championship while also winning their third ACC title. Virginia Tech returns nine athletes who received at least some sort of All-American status last season including three ACC Champions in Thomas Curtain (3,000 meters), Patrick Joseph (mile), and Manuel Ziegler (triple jump). This trio of athletes leads the way for a Virginia Tech program led by the three seniors mentioned above plus thrower Tomas Kruzliak who won an individual outdoor national title in the hammer throw in 2013. These Hokies will know that this year has the potential to take the program to a higher level than previously reached with a national title potentially in reach. Virginia Tech athletics are headed in a very positive, and Virginia Tech's national title as a team seems likely in the next couple of years. The question is can Virginia Tech's men's indoor track and field team be the ones to bring the Hokies' first national title to Blacksburg in 2016.
