Hokies Basketball: Virginia Tech Beats Boston College 71-56

The Virginia Tech Hokies went on the road to take on one of the worst ACC teams in conference history in this year's Boston College Eagles. The Eagles entered the game 0-14 in ACC play while the Hokies entered 6-8 in ACC play knowing that a .500 conference record is in reach along with a spot in the NIT. In front of an unbelievably small crowd of 1,018, the Hokies took care of business. Virginia Tech comfortably beat Boston College 71-56 with the Hokies even bringing in walk-ons Matt Galloway and Greg Donlon for the final few minutes. The Hokies and Eagles swapped the lead over the first few minutes, but the Hokies got going quickly and the Eagles never got within 10 once Virginia Tech took the lead to double digits with 4:53 left in the first half. This game was not the best for either team, but the Hokies were able to get a comfortable win on the road that will be a confidence boost even if Boston College is 0-15 in ACC play. The Hokies gave up 15 turnovers, 14 offensive rebounds, and shot 15-of-22 from the free-throw line; but were otherwise not bad in what became a sloppy game in the second half. Seth Allen went 4-of-9 from the field and led the Hokies with 14 points, with his shooting continuing to trend upward from his current level that has been below 40% this season along with 4 assists and 4 steals. The improvement of Seth Allen's shooting in the last couple games gives the Hokies a better chance at winning at least 2 of the final 3 regular season games and an ACC Tournament game which should put the Hokies in good shape to get in the NIT. Justin Bibbs had another strong road performance with a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double that included going 5-of-9 from the field. Bibbs hasn't been shooting as well from beyond the arc lately, but the sophomore wing has found different ways to be productive and that showed on the road against the Eagles. Kerry Blackshear had a solid game with 10 points and 5 rebounds while Zach LeDay was productive with 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Justin Robinson had a solid game with 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists while Jalen Hudson had 5 points, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds. Chris Clarke was able to avoid missing a game after Saturday's injury and had 5 points and 3 rebounds while Greg Donlon made a shot near the end of regulation. For the Hokies, they avoided what would have been a very disappointing upset loss while also getting their second ACC road win. Now, the Hokies need to keep the momentum going as they play their final road game of the season at Wake Forest.
