Hokies Women's Basketball: Virginia Tech Hires JMU's Kenny Brooks as Next Head Coach

Six days ago, Whit Babcock and the Virginia Tech Hokies announced that they had relieved Dennis Wolff of his duties as the head coach of the women's basketball program. Immediately, the popular name talked about by many in the media as the obvious good choice was Kenny Brooks of James Madison with Brooks having a connection to Babcock from both being athletes at the same time at JMU. Today, the Hokies announced they had their replacement for Dennis Wolff in what was seen as a great hire. https://twitter.com/VT_WBBall/status/714421881131106305 Kenny Brooks has been hired as the next head coach of the Virginia Tech women's basketball program after a 14-year run as the head coach at his alma mater James Madison. Brooks is the all-time leader in wins at James Madison with a record of 337-122 that includes 6 NCAA Tournament appearances, 5 WNIT appearances, and 1 NCAA Tournament victory in the past 11 seasons. Brooks has built JMU into one of women's college basketball's most consistent mid-major programs, and is a proven coach that has had 2 players drafted to the WNBA from JMU along with having 6 CAA Players of the Year and 31 All-CAA selections.. Brooks is also a Virginia native that also has plenty of ties to the top high schools across the state of Virginia, For Babcock, this is another fantastic hire as Brooks is a proven program builder and great coach that has made JMU a consistently top program in the CAA with only one regular season finish below second in the last 11 seasons and that year was still a third place finish. Brooks could have easily stayed at his alma mater for a long time and kept waiting, but Babcock has done a great job convincing Brooks to leave his alma mater and join another former JMU athlete in Blacksburg. Kenny Brooks is the perfect fit for the Hokies as a proven winner and program builder as Whit Babcock has made another fantastic hire.
