Hokies Football: Three-Star TE Drake Deluliis Commits to Virginia Tech

Coming into the 2016 Spring Game weekend, the Virginia Tech Hokies have built some momentum on the recruiting trail with two recent 2017 commitments from three-star athletes Caleb Farley and Dalton Keene joining a group that already included four-star DE Tyjuan Garbutt and high three-star QB Hendon Hooker. Now, the Hokies have started off the weekend with another big commitment from the state of North Carolina. https://twitter.com/drakedeiu/status/723582610673418240 Three-star tight end Drake Deluliis of Providence High School in Charlotte, North Carolina became the Hokies' third commit from North Carolina joining three-star QB Hendon Hooker and three-star ATH/WR Caleb Farley. Deluliis has 6 offers from Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest, Minnesota, and Boston College. Rankings are all over for Deluliis with Rivals having him as a two-star and 39th among North Carolina recruits while the 247 Sports Composite has him as a three-star ranked 37th among North Carolina recruits and 51st among tight ends. Meanwhile, 247 Sports has Deluliis as a high three-star ranked ninth among North Carolina recruits and eighth among tight ends. Deluliis has been a top target for the Hokies for months and while South Carolina has made a hard push, Justin Fuente and his staff have been able to close the deal to lock up the highly-regarded tight end who may still get a lot more offers from major programs. With Bucky Hodges very likely headed to the NFL next season and the Hokies only having three other on-scholarship tight ends outside of Hodges. Deluliis gives the Hokies an athletic tight end with tons of upside who could also be used in a similar role to Hodges as someone who could be used in the slot or on the outside along with being lined up in a traditional tight end spot. The Hokies have some momentum going in North Carolina as the staff has done a good job fighting off some major programs including Notre Dame (Hooker) and South Carolina (Deluliis) for their top commits. Getting the commitment from Deluliis is definitely a good way to keep building the Hokies' recruiting momentum into a huge recruiting weekend. Drake Deluliis is another strong addition to a Virginia Tech recruiting class that has plenty of momentum at the right time.
