2016 NFL Draft: Washington Selects Virginia Tech CB Kendall Fuller 84th Overall

To end the month of April was the 2016 NFL Draft with multiple Hokies hopeful to get selected including a couple that were expecting to get picked very high. The headline name for the Hokies was Kendall Fuller whose stock slipped due to injuries causing him to only play in three games this past fall, and his torn meniscus not being healed enough for him to run at the NFL Combine or his Pro Day. Kendall Fuller surprisingly slipped out of the first two rounds but found himself a home not too far away from Blacksburg and in his home state. Kendall Fuller was selected by Washington with the 84th overall pick in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Fuller was Washington's third selection after they took TCU WR Josh Doctson in the first round and USC S/OLB Su'a Cravens in the second round. If Fuller recovers from his injury as many expect, Fuller will be one of the biggest steals from this draft as Fuller has the skills to be a very good starting cornerback that could be a top 15 to 20 NFL cornerback at his peak. Fuller fit Bud Foster's scheme perfectly as someone that could be left alone in one-on-one matchups and basically put receivers on Fuller island. If it wasn't for injuries, Fuller would have likely been a top 15 pick and built on his impressive first two seasons that earned him Freshman All-American Honors in 2013, and Second Team All-American and First Team All-ACC honors in 2014. Fuller is actually a good fit with Washington as their addition of Josh Norman should allow Fuller a little extra time to make sure he is fully recovered before putting any game pressure on him to perform and make plays. If Fuller can return to his top form, the combination of Norman on one side and Fuller on the other side will create some nightmares for opposing offensive coordinators in trying to get their offense going. Washington made one of the best picks of the draft in poaching someone who will be a quality starting cornerback in the NFL in Kendall Fuller.
