Hokies Basketball: Virginia Tech Will Face Michigan in the 2016 ACC-Big 10 Challenge

For Buzz Williams and the Virginia Tech Hokies, most of their focus is on recruiting as they still have three open scholarship spots with Seth LeDay not taking one due to him walking on for Virginia Tech. However, Williams and the Hokies are also working on putting the finishing touches on their non-conference basketball schedule with one domino they've been waiting on being their ACC-Big 10 Challenge opponent. Now, news has broke that the Hokies will face a Big 10 team that made last year's NCAA Tournament. https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/status/734882187594584064 The Hokies will travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan to take on the Michigan Wolverines in next year's ACC-Big 10 Challenge. Both the Hokies and Wolverines will have aspirations of making the NCAA Tournament and will know that this game should be a resume builder for whoever wins this game. This will be the sixth matchup between the two schools with the Hokies having a 1-4 record against the Wolverines all-time. However, the Hokies won their most recent matchup against Michigan in the 2002 Paradise Jam Tournament in the Virgin Islands. Michigan definitely has more basketball tradition from the days of the Fab Five and their recent national title appearance while both programs also have two talented head coaches in Buzz Williams and John Beilein. The fact that the Hokies are facing a Michigan team that's coming off an appearance in the 2015 NCAA Tournament is a great sign about the direction of the program and how ESPN recognizes that the Hokies are a worthy team of tougher opponents like Michigan compared to Northwestern and Penn State. While a date hasn't been set yet, fans can already prepare to mark their calendar for an early December matchup in Ann Arbor that has the potential to help the Hokies' NCAA Tournament resume if they can get the win. 5/24 Update: https://twitter.com/hokiesports/status/735168896894914560 Virginia Tech has now confirmed that the Hokies will face the Wolverines and that this game will be played on Wednesday, November 30th. Virginia Tech-Michigan will be on the same day as big matchups between Purdue and Louisville, North Carolina and Indiana, and Ohio State and Virginia. Hokie fans can now mark their calendars for this Wednesday night showdown in what is one of Virginia Tech's big non-conference games next season.
