Hokies Football: Justin Fuente and Virginia Tech Will Hold At Least 4 Satellite Camps

Fall practice is still weeks away for the Virginia Tech Hokies, allowing Justin Fuente and his staff to focus on recruiting which now includes putting together satellite camps along with preparing for on-campus camps. When the satellite camp ban was overturned, it became known quickly that Fuente was ready to go in terms of getting satellite camps together across Virginia and around the country. While Fuente isn't hosting nearly as many satellite camps as Michigan's Jim Harbaugh, Fuente will be hosting a few around the East Coast. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/735155010758119425 Justin Fuente and the Virginia Tech Hokies will participate in four satellite camps this summer in the 757, Northern Virginia, New Jersey, and Atlanta. It is unknown if the Hokies will participate in any more satellite camps than that, but it sounds like those four will probably be it in addition to the camps the Hokies will host in Blacksburg this summer. It has been known for a while that the Hokies would host a camp in the 757 with Old Dominion reaching out to the Hokies as soon as the satellite camp ban was overturned though both programs likely have been talking for longer than that. It is unknown who specifically the Hokies will partner with in Northern Virginia though Stonewall Jackson HS could be a possibility as the school where Greg Stroman, Tim Settle, and Reggie Floyd played along with current 2017 commit Devante Smith. Unsurprisingly, Fuente is more excited about the in-state camps as the Hokies continue to seek to strengthen relationships in the powerhouse 757 and the emerging DMV area with a camp in Northern Virginia. https://twitter.com/DavidTeelatDP/status/735166706851717121 However, outside of Virginia with New Jersey not being a major surprise as the Hokies have started looking at more recruits up in New Jersey and Pennsylvania over the last few years. A camp up there should only help the new staff build some stronger relationships in an area that many of the Hokies' coaches have not recruited much if at all in the past. The only location that may be a slight surprise is Atlanta, but the Hokies have some recruiting connections down in Georgia along with multiple targets from that state. Hosting a camp in Atlanta will also allow targets from nearby states like Tennessee and Alabama to come as well as Fuente and his staff seem intent on looking to expand the Hokies' recruiting footprint deeper into the south. If Fuente and the Hokies do decide to add any more satellite camps, the top choice location likely would be Charlotte as the Hokies have put a lot of energy into recruiting the Tar Heel state and already have multiple commits from there this cycle. The Hokies also have sent out some offers in Michigan and Ohio so a camp in Akron or Toledo could also be a consideration along with maybe a camp deeper in the south in Louisiana or even Texas. At this point, having four satellite camps is a good start for Justin Fuente and the Hokies as they embrace the satellite camps that just about every school in the nation will do with the satellite camp ban being overturned.
