Hokies Football: Three-Star WR Hezekiah Grimsley Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies have been busy recently visiting many high schools across the East and South with coaches evaluating recruits and trying to build relationships with coaches and recruits at many top high schools. However, the spring evaluation period is now closing up, and plenty of recruits are beginning to take summer visits. The good news for the Hokies is that they were able to close the deal with their first summer visitor of 2016. https://twitter.com/Talented_hezy/status/736173488323579904 Three-star WR Hezekiah Grimsley of Lafayette High School in Williamsburg, Virginia became Virginia Tech's tenth commit of the Class of 2017 and first from the talented 757. Grimsley has nine offers from across the country including the Hokies, Maryland, Iowa State, Syracuse, East Carolina, Marshall, and Old Dominion. Grimsley is ranked as a three-star recruit by Rivals and the 247 Sports Composite with the 247 Sports Composite ranking Grimsley as the 615th best recruit nationally, 87th best wide receiver, and 19th best in the state of Virginia. For the past few weeks, Virginia Tech and Maryland have been battling each other with Maryland WRs coach Chris Beatty making a strong move for Grimsley. However, VT WRs coach Holmon Wiggins took a more active role in Grimsley's recruitment over the past few weeks alongside Galen Scott and Zohn Burden. Then, the Hokies were able to seal the deal after Grimsley was the Hokies' first summer visitor yesterday. Justin Fuente and his staff have done a great job of finishing the job and getting one of their top wide receiver as they continue to rebuild the depth of Virginia Tech's wide receiver after bringing in four wide receivers in 2016. Grimsley is another solid addition to a wide receiver recruiting class that has the potential to be as big as six or seven by National Signing Day. Getting Grimsley gives the Hokies someone who has the potential to play out wide or in the slot with his size giving him some versatility. Grimsley also gives the Hokies more wide receiver depth that was an issue before the arrival of Justin Fuente. For Fuente and the Hokies, they have done a great job against someone with a lot of recruiting connections in the 757 in Chris Beatty. Holmon Wiggins increasing his involvement in Grimsley's recruitment clearly had an impact on the Williamsburg WR, and Wiggins now may increase his involvement on trying to seal the deal for the 757's top receiver, four-star Tahj Capehart. Hezekiah Grimsley is another strong addition to a Virginia Tech recruiting class that definitely has the potential to finish in the top 20 to 25 nationally on National Signing Day 2017.
