Hokies Football: Three-Star WR Sean Savoy Commits to Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech football's Blacksburg Bash got off to a good start today when 2018 SC WR/ATH Bryce Thompson committed to the Hokies. However, expectations entering the weekend were for more than one commitment and sure enough, that is exactly what is happening. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/756951732559736833 Evan Watkins of VT Scoop is reporting that three-star wide receiver Sean Savoy of Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington D.C. has committed to Virginia Tech. Savoy has a fairly impressive offer sheet that includes the Hokies, Miami, Penn State, Iowa, Maryland, Kentucky, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, East Carolina, and more. Savoy is ranked as the 88th best wide receiver by the 247 Sports Composite, 42nd best by 247 Sports, and 59th best by ESPN. Savoy is also ranked as the Nation's Capital third best 2017 recruit by the 247 Sports Composite, second best by 247 Sports, and fifth best by ESPN. Nationally, Savoy is ranked 569th by the 247 Sports Composite and 338th by 247 Sports. Savoy has been one of Virginia Tech's top wide receiver targets for a while with the Hokies seeming to be the leader for the past couple of months. WRs coach Holmon Wiggins has been the primary recruiter for Savoy and it's quite clear that Wiggins has made Savoy a top priority along with four-star 757 WR Tahj Capehart. Savoy gives the Hokies their fourth WR commit in the Class of 2017 with Hezekiah Grimsley, Kalil Pimpleton, and Caleb Farley though Farley is an athlete that could also end up at cornerback. Savoy projects as a speedy slot receiver that may be able to be used on the outside some or used in some quick screens and jet sweeps. For the Hokies, the addition of Sean Savoy strengthens Justin Fuente's first full year recruiting class even more with the Hokies building some serious momentum from today's Blacksburg Bash.
