This game has created a major marketing opportunity for both universities but Virginia Tech is adding more to their racing marketing this fall. https://twitter.com/VT_Football/status/765207567475675137 The Virginia Tech athletics department and Wood Brothers Racing revealed this morning that Virginia Tech and the Hokie Club will be the primary sponsor for Ryan Blaney and the Wood Brothers' #21 car for this weekend's night race at Bristol Motor Speedway and the upcoming fall race at Martinsville Speedway during NASCAR's playoffs. The partnership is a unique one to say the least as it has been rare to see a public or private university in any form be a NASCAR sponsor in any form. One of the few examples is Liberty University which has sponsored multiple races in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver William Byron. The Wood family has a lot of connections to Virginia Tech with multiple members of the family having graduated or being currently enrolled at Virginia Tech in addition to the Wood family being good friends with Bud Foster. All of the funding for this sponsorship is coming from the Hokie Club and Virginia Tech athletic department as Virginia Tech has said that this sponsorship will be an addition to their "This is Home" campaign. The excitement only continues to build as we are less than a month away from the Battle at Bristol with Bristol Motor Speedway preparing to transform their racetrack into the biggest football stadium ever after this Saturday's night race.
