2016 Rio Olympics: Former Hokie Kristi Castlin Wins Bronze In 100m Hurdles

Over the years, the Virginia Tech track and field program has produced some talented athletes that have gone on to complete at the highest levels of the sport including the Olympic Games. Ahead of this year's Olympics, former Hokie Kristi Castlin qualified for her first Olympics getting second in the 100-meter hurdles at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. Castlin's second-place finish in Eugene gave her the chance to compete in her first Olympics and the former Hokie did not disappoint. https://twitter.com/NBCOlympics/status/766105267088031744 Castlin won the bronze medal in the 100-meter hurdles last night with a time of 12.61 as the United States swept the podium with Brianna Rollins winning the gold medal and Nia Ali winning the silver medal. Castlin made a late surge to move up from mid-pack to win the bronze medal and allow the Hokies to sweep the podium. Castlin was a collegiate star for the Hokies as she was an All-American eight times in indoor and outdoor along with winning four ACC titles during her impressive collegiate career. Now, Castlin has earned the peak achievement of her career with a bronze medal in the Rio Olympics to wear around and bring home with her from these Games. Castlin has had the best year of her career in 2016 as she ran a personal best 12.50 in Eugene before earning the bronze medal in her first Olympics. Castlin likely will have her eyes set on looking ahead to the 2017 World Championships in London where she should be a favorite to win the world title as long as she earns one of the American spots in the field. For Virginia Tech's track and field program, Castlin immediately becomes someone that will be used in recruiting pitches as to why Virginia Tech can be a good developmental place for athletes that have ambitions of competing at the top of track and field in the Olympics and World Championships. Congrats to Kristi Castlin on winning her first Olympic medal at the 2016 Rio Games.
