Hokies Football: Three Hokies to Watch Against #17 North Carolina

The Virginia Tech Hokies and North Carolina Tar Heels are making their final preparations for one of the big games of the weekend in what is a top 25 showdown between two of the top contenders to win the ACC Coastal. With that said, here are your three Hokies to watch from Henry Skutt.

Jerod Evans

This guy will continue to pop on this list until he gives me a reason not to put him here. His play has continued to impress Hokie fans, and I don't expect that to stop against the Tar Heels come Saturday. This game should be a quarterback battle and Hokie fans should feel confident with who they have under center. The weather should play a factor, and I will be watching to see how ball security is during this game. After the Tennessee game, they haven't fumbled the ball once -- something that is huge compared to the first two games of the season. With Evans, watch to see how he handles the wet conditions in both the passing and running game.

Brandon Facyson

UNC has a dynamic duo between quarterback Mitch Trubisky and wide receiver Ryan Switzer. I expect Coach Foster to throw lots of zone at the Tar Heel offense, but I also expect him to match up in some man as well. When this happens, look for the Hokies' best corner to line up across from North Carolina's best wide receiver. Coach Foster has always seemed to know what he's doing when it comes to playing against North Carolina and I don't expect this year to be any different especially with how well Brandon Facyson has been playing this year now that he's healthy, I will be watching to see how he impacts the defensive play for the Hokies.

Cam Phillips

Wearing #25 this week after blocking a punt two weeks ago against East Carolina, I will be watching Cam to see how well he plays in the up-tempo offense. His offensive play has improved every game this season, but he hasn't been consistent in the effort that he gives for individual games. This lack of effort actually led him to be benched for part of the Boston College game. If the Hokies want to get a key ACC victory, it's going to have to be all hands on deck in the storm. This includes the versatile and skilled Cam Phillips. Look for him to continue to make an impact on special teams, but to also play a key role on offense.
