Hokies Men's Basketball: Kerry Blackshear May Miss 2016-2017 Season

The Virginia Tech Hokies men's basketball program had their opening media day with Buzz Williams speaking to the media for the first time this fall. One topic that was brought up was Kerry Blackshear and his injured foot which led to Williams releasing some big information on Blackshear and his ability to play this season. https://twitter.com/RickyLaBlue/status/785561292002045957 https://twitter.com/RTD_MikeBarber/status/785561854336720897 Sophomore forward Kerry Blackshear may miss the season as he recovers from his offseason surgery on his right leg while it seems very likely that he will miss the first couple weeks of the Hokies' season which includes games against Maine, High Point, and VMI. For the Hokies, losing Blackshear would be a significant loss as while Zach LeDay is a very good post player, the Hokies lack proven interior depth behind this duo in addition to LeDay being only listed at 6'7''. While Buzz Williams and the Hokies have proven that they are willing and capable of going with a small lineup that has LeDay or Chris Clarke as the center, the Hokies will need Johnny Hamilton and Khadim Sy to step up whatever the length of time Blackshear is out may be. For now though, Kerry Blackshear's isn't already over and there definitely seems to be a possibility that he could be back in time to join the Hokies on their trip out west to the Wooden Legacy, though that seems unlikely. This will be something to keep an eye in the coming weeks as the Hokies hope to return to the NCAA Tournament this season.
