Hokies Men's Basketball: Virginia Tech Misses Out On Coaches Preseason Top 25, Comes In at 36th

Throughout the offseason, Virginia Tech fans have seen multiple major sports publications release way-too-early top 25s that have included the Virginia Tech Hokies after the Hokies went 10-8 in the ACC last season and made it to the second round of the NIT as part of a 20-win season. The Hokies' success last season has Hokies' fans believing that this team can makes it return to March Madness this season with most key contributors back for the Hokies. Many Hokie fans also believed that Virginia Tech may end up being a top 25 team to start the season and while that isn't the case in the Coaches Poll, Virginia Tech may not need long to jump into the top 25. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/789126742350979072 Virginia Tech received 16 votes in the Preseason Coaches Poll, putting them 36th in the poll but within striking distance of 25th-ranked Cincinnati who made the top 25 with 75 votes. The Hokies will have a few chances to get some solid wins including when they play in the Wooden Legacy and could face a ranked UCLA team if they get to the championship and likely would face a Texas A&M team that is just outside the top 25 should they beat New Mexico. Overall, the Hokies are ninth among ACC schools with 5 ACC teams making the top 25 including #1 Duke, #6 North Carolina, #7 Virginia, #14 Louisville, and #17 Syracuse followed by Florida State at 26th, Miami at 29th, and Notre Dame at 34th all being ahead of the Hokies. Virginia Tech may be outside of the top 25 for now, but the Hokies definitely have a path to getting to the Coaches Poll top 25 rather quickly while there is a chance the Hokies could make the first AP top 25.
