Hokies Football: Darius Fullwood Is Moving From DE to DT

The Virginia Tech Hokies have plenty of talent on their defensive line from talented seniors like Woody Baron. Ken Ekanem, and Nigel Williams to promising young players like Ricky Walker, Trevon Hill, Vinny Mihota, and Tim Settle. There have been some concerns about the depth at defensive end but the Hokies have seen Hill take a big step while Houshun Gaines and Jimmie Taylor have shown a good amount of promise. These factors have led to the Hokies moving one of their bigger defensive ends inside to defensive tackle. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/796138022945386496 Charley Wiles told the media Tuesday that Darius Fullwood has been getting reps at defensive tackle as he makes the transition this fall from the edge to the interior of the defensive line. Fullwood redshirted last season and would be in a position to play at DT if the Hokies needed him to in case two or more of Virginia Tech's top 5 defensive tackles got injured. In the long run, Fullwood is kind of in the mold of Woody Baron as a smaller, more athletic defensive tackle that could develop into a quality DT given that he can fill out his frame as Baron has been able to this year. Fullwood could also be in the two-deep next year at the DT spot with both Baron and Nigel Williams graduating though redshirting freshman Jarrod Hewitt will also be ready to compete for that spot behind Ricky Walker, Tim Settle, and Steve Sobczak. The move for Fullwood isn't a big shocker given his size and the development of guys like Trevon Hill, Houshun Gaines, and Steve Sobczak but if Fullwood can't earn a two-deep spot next year, his future may end up being away from Blacksburg.
